How the answers frame Roku
This snapshot, measured on 2026-09-29, covers 250 benchmark questions across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, or 1,250 answers, none of which named a brand. Roku was named in 38 of them. Grok accounted for 21, Gemini 7, Perplexity 4, and ChatGPT and Claude 3 each. Every credit attached to Roku was tagged "Not Substantive".
The four stored answers we can read show why. In two answers to a question about streaming services that are easy to cancel, Roku appears in the list of brands named alongside Disney, Netflix and Paramount. The visible text of both answers gives step-by-step cancellation instructions for Netflix, Hulu and Disney+, and the excerpts supplied cut off before any Roku passage. In a Grok answer on which broadcasters are transitioning to streaming-first, Roku is tagged among the brands named, but the visible text centers on Disney, NBCUniversal, Paramount and Fox.
The one place the visible text speaks about Roku directly is Grok's answer to a journalist's question about media acquirers. It says Fox Corporation is pursuing distribution scale through an acquisition of Roku, which the answer dates to June 2026, with a close expected in 2027. Roku appears there as the object of someone else's strategy.
By question intent, Roku's visibility was highest on service (8%), innovation (7%) and consolidation impact (7%). It was 0% on safety, employer, avoid, and coverage and network quality.
Pursuing distribution scale with its ~$22 billion acquisition of Roku (announced June 2026, expected close in 2027).
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index shows 18,645 mentions of Roku in the last 30 days, 1,402 with the brand in the headline. That is heavy coverage. It is comparable in volume to Verizon (23,125) and T-Mobile (22,628) in the same peer set.
The five recent headlines supplied lean toward financial and consumer-tech stories. They include an insider share sale by the company's president, a report that the stock hit a three-year high, and a Zacks industry outlook grouping Roku with Netflix, Fox and SiriusXM. Others include a how-to on improving Roku TV image quality and a Paris Hilton documentary produced for Roku. The acquisition storyline in the Grok answer does not appear in these five headlines, though they are only a small slice of the coverage.
The gap
Press attention and AI visibility diverge sharply. Roku's coverage volume sits near that of the largest telecom names in this set, yet it was named in 38 answers. Verizon was named in 599, AT&T in 576 and T-Mobile in 506. Spotify, with more news mentions than Roku, was named in 32.
The framing differs too. The press headlines describe a company with market momentum, a consumer product and original programming. In the answers we can read, Roku shows up in a cancellation list and, in one Grok answer, as an acquisition target. Neither of those is a product or content story.
What to watch
For a comms team, the takeaway from this single snapshot is that unbranded category questions rarely reach Roku, and when they do the assistants have little to say about it. Question types where Roku showed some visibility, such as service, innovation and consolidation impact, are the places to start.
Grok is the assistant naming Roku most often, and the one answer we can read from it frames Roku through the Fox transaction. Check whether that account matches how the company wants the deal described, and which cited domains sit behind it. The Grok answer cited sources such as ppc.land, PwC and AlixPartners for the broader M&A picture.
