How the answers frame Rapid7
This snapshot was taken on 2026-09-29. It covers ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, with 250 benchmark questions each and no brand named in any question. Rapid7 was named in 52 of the 1,250 answers. By provider that was Grok 15, Gemini 13, ChatGPT 9, Perplexity 9 and Claude 6, each out of 250. Among 15 cybersecurity peers in the data, Rapid7 sat near the bottom for answer mentions, well behind Microsoft Security, CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks. The only entry under what Rapid7 was credited for is "Not Substantive", so the data records no clear strength attached to the name.
We were given two of the answers that named Rapid7. In Gemini's answer to a question about cybersecurity firms with major layoffs, Rapid7 was the first firm listed. The answer described multiple rounds of restructuring and tied the latest cut to a move toward an AI-first platform. In ChatGPT's answer to an investor question about the riskiest public cybersecurity companies, Rapid7 appeared in the visible working notes next to CrowdStrike and SolarWinds. The stored text is cut off before any conclusion about Rapid7.
By question intent, Rapid7's highest visibility was on employer questions, at 11%. Visibility on the other intents ranged from 2% to 6%, including detection effectiveness, incident transparency and safety.
In August 2026, Rapid7 announced a 12% workforce reduction (approximately 310 employees) as it shifted its focus toward an AI-first cybersecurity platform.
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index shows 1,796 mentions of Rapid7 over the last 30 days, 235 of them with the brand in the headline. The recent headlines we were given are financial and corporate. They include a roundup of Wall Street analyst research calls, a group headline about shares of several software and security companies falling, and repeated syndicated releases about inducement grants under a Nasdaq listing rule.
I should consider companies like CrowdStrike, SolarWinds, and Rapid7 as they are notable in the industry.
The gap
The press stream we can see is about the market: analyst coverage, share moves and equity grants. The AI answers we can see are about workforce reductions and past-failure risk. The five headlines supplied do not include a layoffs or security-failure story, so the two sources are telling different stories in this snapshot.
Volume differs too. Rapid7's news count is higher than that of several peers the answers named more often or about as often, such as Mandiant, Wiz and Proofpoint. Press attention has not translated into frequent naming in these answers.
What to watch
A comms team would take three things from this. First, when assistants do name Rapid7, the context can be an employer or risk question, and the Gemini answer gave specific figures on cuts. Second, the data shows no attached strength, so the company's own positioning is not visibly carrying into these answers. Third, the ChatGPT example shows the brand can enter a shortlist of "notable" names without any stated reason.
This is one run of live answers, which vary between runs. Treat it as a baseline to re-measure, not as a ranking or a trend.
