How the answers frame Popeyes
This snapshot, taken 2026-09-29, covers 250 benchmark questions across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, or 1,250 answers in all. None of the questions named a brand. Popeyes was named in 134 of those answers. Grok carried the most (53 of 250), followed by Gemini (29), Perplexity (20), Claude (17) and ChatGPT (15). Other chains in the same restaurant set appeared far more often, including McDonald's in 634 answers and Chick-fil-A in 472.
The clearest role for Popeyes is on price. In the stored Claude answer to the chicken-sandwich-for-the-price question, Popeyes was named the best overall value. The ChatGPT answer to the same question leaned toward Chick-fil-A for everyday value. It still noted a Popeyes offer of a free chicken sandwich on a first app order of $10 or more. The brand's credited themes are small in number and lean toward Price & Value, with single mentions for Financial Performance and Reliability & Operations. Two credits were tagged Not Substantive.
In other answers Popeyes plays a background part. Gemini's answer on who dominates the chicken sandwich market called Chick-fil-A the dominant force. It described Popeyes as a significant player at a smaller scale and cited an average of around $2 million per unit. The same answer credited the 2019 Popeyes launch with kicking off the "chicken sandwich wars." Claude's industry-influence answer listed Popeyes among chicken concepts that led in 2024. Perplexity mentioned Popeyes only as one brand inside the Restaurant Brands International portfolio.
Some framings are less flattering. Gemini's drive-thru answer placed Popeyes among chains noted for longer service times. Its workplace-safety answer listed Popeyes among the chains named, but the text discussed McDonald's and Yum! Brands initiatives at length. By question intent, visibility was highest on leadership (20%), value (17%) and avoid (15%) questions. It was lowest on innovation and menu health (3% each).
Popeyes offers the best value at $4.99…
What the press is saying
The PeakMetrics news index recorded 2,741 mentions of Popeyes over the last 30 days. In 347 of them the brand was in the headline. That is a mid-sized footprint next to McDonald's (22,451) and Starbucks (23,967), and larger than Subway's (1,415) or Panera Bread's (1,331).
The recent headlines split into four storylines. Promotions: Labor Day deals and discounts alongside Wendy's. Menu: a honey chicken biscuit that fans asked for, and a question about whether Popeyes still uses beef tallow. Supply chain: a construction company that served Wendy's and Popeyes filing for Chapter 11. Food safety: a Louisiana staffer who filmed himself contaminating raw chicken, and the backlash that followed.
Has also been noted in recent data for longer service times.
The gap
The two stories overlap on price and promotions. The assistants credit Popeyes for value, and the press covers its deals. Beyond that they diverge. The press headlines carry a food-safety incident and a contractor bankruptcy, and none of the sampled answers took up either. The assistants instead tie Popeyes to market scale, per-unit sales, drive-thru timing and its parent company's investor profile.
Coverage volume and answer volume also do not track each other. Dunkin' had more news mentions (6,605) than Popeyes but appeared in fewer answers (99). Popeyes appeared in 134 answers on 2,741 mentions. In this snapshot, how much the press writes about a brand is not what decides how often the assistants name it. These are eight stored answers from a larger set, so the framings above are illustrations, not a full inventory.
What to watch
Value is the theme the answers most consistently attach to Popeyes, and it depends on live price and promotion data. Claude's answer built its verdict on a $4.99 price point, and ChatGPT's leaned on an app offer. A comms team can check which price and deal pages the assistants are drawing on, since those pages shape the value story.
Track how Popeyes is described on service speed, and on safety and employer questions, where visibility was low in this snapshot. The food-safety headline sits in the news index but was not in the sampled answers. If the assistants begin to pick it up, that would show in later runs, not in this one.
Live answers vary between runs. Treat this as a single dated reading from 2026-09-29 and compare it against repeat measurements before drawing conclusions.
