How the answers frame PNC
This snapshot, measured 2026-09-29, covers 250 benchmark questions across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, or 1,250 answers in all. None of the questions named a brand. PNC was named in 109 of those answers. Grok accounted for the most (41 of 250), followed by ChatGPT (24), Perplexity (18), and Claude and Gemini (13 each).
In the five stored answers we were given, PNC appears as one item in a list. Gemini and Perplexity, asked who the biggest debit card issuers are, placed it among the major issuers. Perplexity's 2023 figures put PNC Bank fourth. Claude, asked about low-rate auto loans, listed PNC Bank among four bank options after a longer run of credit unions. Perplexity's market capitalization table put PNC Financial Services seventh, and noted that its figures came from two different snapshot dates.
The answers credited PNC with almost nothing specific. The credited-for field returned only "Not Substantive" (3). By question intent, PNC's visibility was highest on leadership (23%) and digital banking experience (17%). It was lowest on rewards and perks, regulatory compliance, service and innovation (3% to 4% each).
Among the 15 financial-services names in the sector peer set, PNC ranked eleventh by answer count. JPMorgan Chase was named in 591 answers and Bank of America in 469. In the one answer we saw on customer treatment, ChatGPT named PNC in a long list of big banks. The answer's working notes said that "No major US bank has a spotless record", so the list was a general one and not aimed at PNC.
For 2023, the top five were JPMorgan Chase ($438.66 billion), Wells Fargo ($416.02 billion), Bank of America ($406.05 billion), PNC Bank ($117.06 billion), and Navy Federal Credit Union ($113.95 billion).
What the press is saying
PNC had 15,687 mentions in the PeakMetrics news index over the last 30 days, and 1,418 of those carried the brand in the headline. That is about the same volume as Capital One (15,891), which was named in 363 answers.
The recent headlines are mostly corporate and financial. They include a valuation piece on PNC stock, notices about redeeming preferred-stock depositary shares, and a PNC Bank prime rate change. One sports headline, about a Brewers player and a hose at PNC Park, also carries the name.
Top bank options include Capital One, Bank of America, PNC Bank, and Chase Bank.
The gap
The press and the assistants both treat PNC as a financial institution. But the press story is about PNC's own actions: capital moves, rate changes and stock commentary. In these answers PNC was a comparison point that other questions pulled in, such as debit volume, market cap and auto loan options.
Volume does not track answer counts across the peer set. Morgan Stanley (102,303 news mentions) and Goldman Sachs (92,123) have heavy press coverage but were named in fewer answers than several lower-coverage banks. For PNC, coverage in the news index and presence in the answers are two separate measurements.
What to watch
A comms team at PNC would take from this snapshot that the assistants place the brand mainly in scale-and-ranking contexts. Questions about service, compliance, rewards and innovation rarely brought it up. Those are the areas where the answers gave the brand little specific to say.
The cited-domain and sourcing details are worth checking next, since Perplexity's answers leaned on third-party ranking data with mixed dates. This is one run of live answers. Counts and placements will vary between runs, so treat them as a baseline, not a ranking.
