How the answers frame MetLife
PeakMetrics asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok 250 benchmark questions each on 2026-09-29, none naming a brand. MetLife was named in 79 of the 1,250 answers. By provider that was Grok 20, Gemini 19, Claude 14, ChatGPT 13 and Perplexity 13, each out of 250.
The visibility was concentrated. By question intent, MetLife appeared in 28% of employer questions and 26% of leadership questions. Trust was at 6%. Reliability, innovation, sustainability and claims experience were each between 3% and 4%. Service, coverage options, financial strength and safety were between 1% and 2%. Value and avoid questions were at 0%.
The sampled answers fit that pattern. In Gemini's answer to "Who are the biggest insurance companies in the United States?", MetLife sat under life and annuity premiums, alongside Equitable Holdings, New York Life and Prudential Financial. In a ChatGPT answer on financial stability, MetLife was one of five brands named, next to State Farm, USAA, Chubb and Prudential Financial. In the employer questions to Gemini and Grok, MetLife was named among the brands, but the supplied excerpts spend their opening lines on Progressive, Liberty Mutual, Travelers and Erie.
The credit attached to MetLife was thin. Of the credit tags recorded, four were "Not Substantive" and one was "Financial Performance". That suggests the answers mostly named MetLife without saying much about it.
Often ranks at the top for life and annuity premiums.
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index logged 22,582 MetLife mentions in the last 30 days, with 1,108 carrying the brand in the headline. Only Nationwide, at 30,881, has more in this peer set.
The five most recent headlines supplied show a split. Four concern MetLife Stadium: a school district's state finals schedule, Jets and Packers injury updates, a live game analysis and a police report about an assault. One is a financial story: "MetLife (MET) Sees Record Annuity Demand, Is The Upside Already Priced In?" The supplied data does not show how the full 22,582 mentions divide between stadium and insurance coverage.
The gap
MetLife has more news volume than most insurers in this comparison. State Farm appears in 483 answers on 9,563 news mentions. Travelers appears in 276 on 10,338. MetLife appears in 79 on 22,582. Press volume did not translate into answer visibility here.
The gap is also one of subject matter. The press flow in the sample leans toward stadium events, while the answers reached for MetLife in scale, life-and-annuity and employer contexts. The one insurance-business headline, on annuity demand, sits close to the life-and-annuity framing in Gemini's answer. On the consumer-facing questions about trust, service, value and claims, MetLife barely appeared in these answers. Other brands filled those answers.
What to watch
For a comms team, this snapshot suggests two things to check. First, whether the trust, claims and financial-strength benchmark questions keep returning the same peers instead of MetLife. Second, which sources the assistants draw on in the employer and leadership answers, since those are where MetLife shows up most.
The results come from single runs of live assistants and can shift between runs. Read them as a snapshot of 2026-09-29, not a ranking or a trend. The next step is to repeat the benchmark questions and compare which brands and cited domains fill the intents where MetLife is near zero.
