How the answers frame Marriott
In this snapshot (measured 2026-09-28, 25 answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok), 16 answers named Marriott. Perplexity named it in four of its five answers and every other assistant in three. Hilton also appeared in 16 answers and Hyatt in 15. Marriott appeared in every assistant's answers on customer experience, loyalty programs and hotel sustainability. Perplexity also named Marriott.com in a booking-sites answer, as one of the hotel brands' direct sites.
Loyalty is where the framing is clearest. ChatGPT, drawing on The Points Guy rankings, called Marriott Bonvoy the best all-around program. Perplexity, Gemini and Claude framed it around footprint, and Hyatt around point value. Grok listed Marriott's larger network as a strength and its lower point value as a drawback.
On customer experience the answers credited Marriott mostly through broad rankings, not segment wins. ChatGPT cited a Forbes Travel Guide reader award for customer service. Claude cited NerdWallet's best hotel ranking. Perplexity cited ACSI-based reporting. Gemini pointed to YouGov BrandIndex figures showing high consideration for major brands. The J.D. Power segment leaders listed by Gemini, Perplexity and Grok were other names, including Ritz-Carlton, Kimpton, Drury, Hyatt House and several Hilton brands.
On sustainability, Claude called Marriott "among the most committed". Gemini, Perplexity and Grok credited its Serve 360 program (Perplexity spelled it Serve360). Perplexity ranked Hilton first on measurement-based commitment, with Accor next and Marriott third.
Marriott Bonvoy is the best all-around hotel loyalty program…
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index shows 24,774 mentions of Marriott over the last 30 days, of which 2,379 had the brand in the headline. That is the largest volume in the hotel and travel peer set here. Hilton had 13,956, Hyatt 14,355 and Airbnb 15,980.
The recent headlines are about expansion, property-level news and consumer promotions. They include two Marriott brands debuting in Uganda, a planned transformation of the JW Marriott Dana Point resort, a holiday event at JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge, and a Bonvoy cruise-with-points sweepstakes. This is a sample of five headlines, not the full coverage.
…has one of the largest global portfolios and is repeatedly highlighted for geographic coverage…
The gap
The press story is what Marriott is opening, renovating and promoting. The AI story is what Marriott represents to a traveler choosing a chain: a program that gets you a hotel almost anywhere, and a mainstream name that shows up in satisfaction rankings.
The two overlap on scale. Expansion headlines and the answers' footprint framing point the same way. The topics diverge elsewhere. The sustainability credit in the answers (Serve 360, net-zero pledges) does not appear in the five headlines supplied. The supplied headlines also carry none of the segment-level satisfaction rankings that decide the customer-experience answers, where other brands lead their categories.
Heavy press volume did not translate into a distinct lead in these answers. Marriott's presence matched Hilton's, and Hyatt was close behind.
What to watch
The answers lean on outside rankings and listicles: J.D. Power, YouGov, ACSI, Forbes Travel Guide, NerdWallet and The Points Guy. A comms team can see from the cited domains which third-party sources shape the Marriott description, and which of them place it behind other brands.
Two framings are worth tracking. On loyalty, the answers split between Marriott as the best all-around program and Hyatt as the best-value one. On customer experience, the segment-award lists leave Marriott out.
This is one run on one date. Live answers vary between runs, so treat these as a starting benchmark, not a ranking.
