How the answers frame Lowe's
This snapshot, measured on 2026-09-29, covers 250 benchmark questions put to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok. That is 1,250 answers, and none of the questions named a brand. Lowe's appeared in 134 of them. Grok named it most often (39 of 250 answers). Claude named it least (20 of 250).
In the sampled answers Lowe's mostly appears as one name in a list. When the question was about who leads home improvement, ChatGPT's answer named Home Depot as the leader and set Lowe's sales beside it as the comparison. Perplexity's market-share answer put Home Depot and Lowe's in a 'more mixed' group. Grok's answer on complaint handling put Lowe's after Home Depot. In the credit tagging, most of the 11 credited answers were classed 'Not Substantive' (8). Financial Performance, Labour & Workplace and Customer Experience were credited once each.
Visibility varied by question type. Lowe's showed up most in leadership questions (27%), innovation (19%) and employer questions (18%). It showed up least in reliability (3%), avoid (4%) and returns and shipping (5%) questions. In the employer answers, Gemini's health-insurance answer listed Lowe's among retailers offering coverage to part-time staff. Claude's answer on the largest US retail employers listed it with a headcount.
Peers appeared far more often: Walmart in 577 answers, Target in 452 and Costco in 423. Home Depot appeared in 177.
Lowe’s explicitly offers health care plans to "regular" part-time associates.
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index shows 3,950 mentions of Lowe's over the last 30 days, 962 of them with the brand in the headline. Recent headlines fall into a few storylines. There is an investor-relations item (participation in a Goldman Sachs consumer and retail conference). There are stock stories: one on heavy put-options activity and whether the shares will keep falling, and a valuation piece predicting Costco could be worth more than Home Depot and Lowe's combined by 2030. There is a report that Lowe's launched a new delivery service as it works to win back customers. And there is a viral story from a dumpster diver claiming Lowe's discarded new cabinets and live plants.
Coverage is heavy on markets and operations and light on the workplace, safety and service themes that dominate the sampled answers.
…the available results don’t support a clear current, across-the-board share trend for them.
The gap
The press story is about stock direction, investor events, delivery and a disposal controversy. The sampled answers, by contrast, place Lowe's in comparison sets: home improvement leadership, big-box employers, health benefits, curbside pickup. The stock, delivery and disposal storylines did not surface in the answers we were given.
Volume also diverges. Home Depot has about 17,600 news mentions against Lowe's 3,950, a gap of more than four to one. In AI answers the gap is much narrower (177 appearances against 134). Best Buy has fewer news mentions than Lowe's (5,591 against 3,950 is higher, so Best Buy actually has more), yet its AI appearances (155) are also above Lowe's. Nike sits at the opposite extreme: heavy press (37,047) but fewer answers naming it (86). Press volume and AI visibility do not track each other in this set.
Menards and Ace Hardware generally rank highest among major home improvement chains for customer satisfaction and complaint handling, followed by Home Depot and then Lowe’s…
What to watch
For a Lowe's comms team, the takeaway from this single snapshot is that the assistants use Lowe's mainly as a comparison point to Home Depot and the large national chains, and rarely as the subject of a story on its own. Visibility was lowest on reliability and 'avoid' questions, so those are the places where the answers say the least about the brand.
Two things are worth tracking in later runs. One is whether Lowe's is credited for anything beyond list membership, since the credits here were mostly 'Not Substantive'. The other is whether recent press storylines, such as the delivery relaunch, start to appear in answers or cited domains. Live answers vary between runs, so treat these figures as a single measurement, not a ranking or a trend.
