How the answers frame Klarna
This snapshot, taken 2026-09-29, covers 250 benchmark questions that never named a brand, run across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok. Klarna was named in 70 of 1,250 answers. By assistant: Grok 19 of 250, ChatGPT 15, Perplexity 15, Claude 11, Gemini 10. Visibility by question intent was highest on leadership (13%), employer (11%) and regulatory compliance (11%), and 0% on reliability, money movement speed and account protection.
The two stored answers that named Klarna show two different roles. In Claude's answer to a question about the best fintech companies to work for, Klarna appeared in a list of firms "actively hiring in 2026", next to Stripe, Plaid, Adyen, Wise, Revolut, SoFi and Chime. The answer's distinguishing descriptions went to other companies: Stripe for engineering bar, Ramp for growth, Adyen for stability.
In Perplexity's answer to a question about BNPL complaints, Klarna was one of five providers described. The answer said late fees depend on the plan, cited NBC reporting of fees up to $7 on common programs and up to $35 on a legacy financing product, and said Klarna may send unpaid debt to collections. The same answer said the sources do not establish a ranking of which company draws the most complaints. It pointed to Affirm and PayPal Pay in 4 as appearing less exposed on surprise late fees specifically.
The credit tags on Klarna's mentions are thin: one was tagged Price & Value and one Not Substantive.
Late fees depend on the plan; NBC reported fees up to $7 for common programs and up to $35 for a legacy financing product.
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index shows 2,699 mentions of Klarna over the past 30 days, 430 of them with the brand in the headline. The recent headlines are commercial and corporate. They cover an Adyen-powered tie-up with the online marketplace StockX expanding into the US and Canada, NordVPN becoming a privacy perk for Klarna members, a former Klarna finance chief taking a CFO role at Avanti Studios, and a market note on Affirm, Klarna and PayPal ticking up.
None of the sampled headlines concern late fees or collections.
The gap
The press storyline is partnerships, member benefits and market moves. The AI storyline in the two answers on hand is different: a name in an employer list, and a provider in a consumer-cost comparison where fees and collections were the frame.
Klarna's news volume is close to that of Fiserv and above Affirm's, yet its appearance in answers is lower than that of PayPal (532 of 1,250) and Block (508). Coinbase has a similar answer count to Klarna's (75) with far more news (28,217). Press volume and answer presence do not move together in this snapshot.
What to watch
Two things stand out for a Klarna comms team. First, the question types where Klarna did not appear at all: reliability, money movement speed and account protection. Second, the BNPL fee question, where the answer's framing came from third-party consumer reporting (NBC, Consumer Reports) rather than from anything in the recent headlines.
This is one snapshot of live answers, and only two answers were reviewed in full. Answers vary between runs, so the useful step is to repeat the benchmark questions and check which sources the assistants cite on fees and collections.
