How the answers frame JPMorgan Chase
This snapshot was measured on 2026-09-28 across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok. It covers 25 answers to category questions that never named a brand. JPMorgan Chase appeared in 14 of them, behind Bank of America (16) and ahead of Wells Fargo (11). It came up on three questions: which banks are most trustworthy, which institutions have the best reputation, and which banks have faced the most regulatory penalties. Gemini was the only assistant to skip it on the trust question.
On trust and safety, the answers used it as a reference point. Perplexity credited Chase with the top spot on a Yahoo Finance safest-banks list. Grok gave JPMorgan an AA- credit rating as an example of financial stability. Gemini listed it first under financial strength and stability. ChatGPT included Chase in a short list of big national banks, citing J.D. Power. In the classification of what the brand was credited for, Safety & Compliance led with four entries. Three mentions were classed as Not Substantive, meaning the name appeared in a list without a specific claim attached.
The penalty question put the same name in a different frame. Perplexity, citing Violation Tracker figures, put Bank of America first and JPMorgan Chase second by total penalties. Grok listed JPMorgan second among banks by cumulative financial-offense penalties and noted a $13 billion toxic securities settlement. ChatGPT named JPMorgan among the banks in a Fed foreign-exchange enforcement action. Claude, on the reputation question, said Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo are among the largest U.S. banks but have had varying reputation challenges.
…as the top bank on Yahoo Finance’s “safest banks” list, based on a low Texas ratio and strong Moody’s rating.
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index recorded 63,531 mentions of JPMorgan Chase over the last 30 days. In 3,204 of them the brand was in the headline. The five recent headlines sampled are almost all investor-desk items: institutional buyers adding shares, a stock position lifted by a wealth manager, and a JPMorgan price forecast for Barclays. Two are dividend and earnings-growth comparisons with PNC and Goldman Sachs.
The outlets in that sample are americanbankingnews.com, masterinvestor.co.uk and defenseworld.net. The coverage is heavy, but in this sample it concerns JPMorgan as a stock.
…all were part of a major Fed foreign-exchange enforcement action totaling more than $1.8 billion.
The gap
The AI answers and the press draw on different material. The answers talk about trust surveys, credit ratings and enforcement history. The press headlines sampled talk about who bought shares and how the dividend compares. Neither storyline appears in the other's world.
Volume does not explain visibility either. Morgan Stanley has more 30-day news mentions (102,858) than JPMorgan Chase and appeared in one answer. Bank of America has more news (100,286) and appeared in more answers. Press coverage and AI visibility are separate measures, and this snapshot shows them moving independently.
What to watch
A comms team would take from this snapshot that assistants keep the trust framing and the penalty framing side by side. Which one a reader meets depends on the question asked. On trust questions, the citations came from survey and rating sources such as J.D. Power, Yahoo Finance and rating agencies. On the penalty question, they came from enforcement databases and Fed releases.
It is also worth noting that several mentions were classed as list-only. Being named alongside peers is not the same as being credited for something specific. These are single runs from five assistants on three questions. Live answers vary between runs, so the pattern is worth re-checking before it is treated as settled.
