How the answers frame Hershey
This snapshot, measured on 2026-09-29, covers 250 benchmark questions that never named a brand, run across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok. That produced 1,250 answers, and Hershey was named in 43. Grok accounted for 21 of those. ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity each named it in 6, and Gemini in 4. Among the 15 consumer-goods companies in the peer set, Hershey sits near the bottom on appearances. Procter & Gamble was named in 314 answers, and Mars, a direct confectionery peer, in 80.
Where Hershey did appear, the question topic mattered. Visibility was highest on sourcing transparency questions (15%) and leadership questions (12%). It was at or near zero on value, service, safety and packaging waste. The credit tags attached to Hershey were thin: one answer tagged Sustainability & Ethics and one tagged Not Substantive.
The two stored answers show the range. In ChatGPT's answer to a question about household brands with the strongest customer loyalty, Hershey's was listed alongside Heinz, citing Morning Consult's trust rankings. In Gemini's answer on child labor in cocoa supply chains, Hershey was one of several chocolate companies named next to Nestlé, Mars and Mondelez, in the context of legal actions and reports about supply-chain practices. The industry-wide framing came from Gemini, not from any Hershey-specific finding.

What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index logged 2,097 mentions of Hershey over the last 30 days, 729 of them with the brand in the headline. That is well below Coca-Cola (22,781) and Nestlé (12,010), and above Mars (1,859).
The recent headlines are a mixed set. There are two correction notices for The Hershey Company on local news press-release sites, a listing for a free virtual talk on the history of Hershey Chocolate, and a Pinterest recipe for a no-bake Hershey pie. There is also a business piece that groups Pepsi, Hershey, Costco and Kroger under a "$73 billion problem." The visible press picture is largely local, promotional, recipe-driven or shared with other companies.
…have been subject to ongoing legal actions and reports that allege complicity in, or failure to adequately address, forced child labor and trafficking within their supply chains…
The gap
Hershey has more news mentions than Mars in the index, yet Mars was named in nearly twice as many answers in this snapshot. Press volume and assistant visibility do not track each other here.
The subjects differ too. The press headlines are about corrections, heritage events and recipes. The assistant answers that named Hershey were about cocoa sourcing and about trust rankings from a third-party survey. Neither topic is prominent in the sampled headlines. The assistants also rarely reached Hershey at all on questions about value, service or safety.
What to watch
For a Hershey comms team, the takeaway is that sourcing and leadership questions are where the assistants currently surface the company, and that these answers often place it inside a peer group. Gemini's answer described the sector as under pressure to move from "promises" to measurable accountability. That is the context in which Hershey was named.
Check which sources sit behind these mentions. The ChatGPT answer leaned on Morning Consult, so third-party rankings can shape how the assistants describe the brand. Grok named Hershey far more often than the other four assistants, so results by assistant are worth tracking separately.
This is one snapshot of live answers, which vary between runs. It should be repeated before anyone treats it as a pattern.
