How the answers frame Frontier Airlines
This snapshot was measured on 2026-09-29. It covers 250 benchmark questions, none naming a brand, put to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, for 1,250 answers in all. Frontier was named in 315 of them. Grok accounted for 120 of its 250 answers, well above the other four assistants, which ranged from 42 to 61 each. By question intent, Frontier's visibility was highest on value questions (56%) and questions about which airlines to avoid (46%). It was lowest on loyalty perks and routes (8% each).
The answers mostly place Frontier in the ultra-low-cost group and attach caveats. Claude's hidden-fees answer grouped it with Spirit, Sun Country and Allegiant, and said it and Spirit were "genuinely poor choices" for travelers checking a bag or flying on a tight schedule. Gemini's toddler-travel answer put Frontier and Allegiant under airlines with "lower passenger satisfaction scores" and fewer rebooking resources. Gemini's maintenance answer listed Frontier and Spirit among carriers that often rank at the bottom of delay and cancellation lists. Grok's tight-connection answer described Frontier as frequently ranking worst or near-worst for on-time performance.
Grok's data-breach answer also named Frontier. It described a booking-system flaw that exposed passport numbers and other personal details, and a separate hack, citing cybernews.com, techspot.com and databreaches.net. Across the answers, the categories Frontier was credited for were mostly Reliability & Operations, with smaller mentions for Price & Value, Financial Performance and Safety & Compliance.
Some answers were more favorable on specific points. Claude and Perplexity both put Frontier among the top carriers for baggage handling in their lost-luggage answers. Perplexity's answer on carry-on fees said Frontier typically includes only a small personal item. Its credit-card answer said some Frontier cards offer a free checked bag. Gemini's ultra-low-cost answer described Frontier as one of the largest such carriers by fleet size, with financial headwinds and a cautious growth strategy.
Spirit, Frontier, Sun Country, and Allegiant are known for hidden fees, cramped seating, and limited customer service, often making the total cost higher than expected…
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index shows 943 mentions of Frontier in the last 30 days, 183 with the brand in the headline. The recent headlines are commercial and operational. They cover a Cancel for Any Reason product powered by Hopper Technology Solutions, a $38 San Francisco to Los Angeles fare, first-ever flights to South America with fares from $99, and a service-dog incident that delayed a flight for three hours.
That volume is small next to the largest carriers in the sector set. American Airlines has 32,472 mentions and United 19,913. Frontier is closer to Allegiant (906) and Breeze (516).
JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, and Frontier Airlines also rank among the top 5 best airlines for luggage handling.
The gap
The press headlines describe a company launching flexibility products, promoting low fares and opening a new region. The AI answers mostly describe a carrier to be careful with. They focus on fees, tight connections, cancellations and rebooking, and in one Grok answer a data-security incident. The Cancel for Any Reason product and the South America launch do not appear in any of the supplied answers. The service-dog story is also absent from them.
Frontier's coverage is modest, yet it was named in more answers than Spirit (235), Allegiant (164) and Emirates (123) in this snapshot. The answers do not seem to be driven by news volume. They rely on cited third-party rankings, forum discussion and data sites. Grok's answers cited aerocorner.com and pirg.org for the on-time and complaint claims about Frontier.
What to watch
Grok's heavy share of Frontier mentions means one assistant's sources can shape much of the picture. A comms team could check which third-party pages Grok draws on for on-time, cancellation and security claims, and whether those pages are current.
The baggage-handling credit in the Claude and Perplexity answers shows the story is not uniformly negative. New products such as Cancel for Any Reason target the rebooking and cancellation worry that Gemini raised, but nothing in this snapshot shows the answers picking them up. This is one dated snapshot of live answers, which vary between runs, so it is a baseline to re-measure and not a trend.
