How the answers frame Fortinet
This snapshot, taken 2026-09-29, covers 250 benchmark questions put to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok, 1,250 answers in all. Fortinet was named in 269 of them. Grok named it most often (73 of 250 answers) and Claude least (45 of 250). Fortinet sits fourth among its 15 listed peers, behind Microsoft Security, CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks and ahead of Cisco. The 21 stored answers that named Fortinet are a sample of those 269.
The dominant frame is network security, and firewalls in particular. In the next-generation firewall question, ChatGPT's answer led with Fortinet's FortiGate line and its coverage across physical, virtual and cloud deployments. Gemini's answer for the same question put Fortinet in the "All-rounder / Performance" slot. Its table credited the company with "Exceptional price-to-performance via custom ASIC hardware; excellent for distributed networks and SD-WAN."
Cost and company size recur. Claude's answer to the most-trusted-vendors question placed Fortinet under "Network Firewalls & SMB Solutions" and called it "ideal for small to mid businesses." Gemini's low-cost firewall answer named Fortinet as its only commercial entry-level appliance line. Perplexity's training question surfaced Fortinet for free entry-level training. Gemini's investor answer described Fortinet as favored by "growth-at-a-reasonable-price" investors, citing its proprietary ASIC hardware.
Visibility depends heavily on the kind of question. Fortinet appeared in 64% of answers to leadership-intent questions, its highest intent. Value (8%), detection effectiveness (8%), incident transparency (9%) and the "avoid" questions (6%) were far lower. The tagged "credited for" data is thin, with only a handful of tagged credits, and most were not substantive. The largest substantive tag was Price & Value.
Grok's answer on critical firewall vulnerabilities is the one place where the assistants built the story around a Fortinet problem. It said Fortinet and SonicWall "stand out as having had the most critical (and actively exploited) firewall-related vulnerabilities disclosed in recent years." It cited CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities listings. That is one answer on one question, not the pattern across the set. Perplexity's answer on firewall support framed Fortinet among the vendors "often mentioned positively" while noting the evidence was anecdotal.

What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index recorded 8,214 mentions of Fortinet over the last 30 days, 995 of them with the brand in the headline. The recent headlines fall into four storylines. The first is a collaboration between Intel and Fortinet on the Fortinet SP6 ASIC. The second is stock performance, including a piece noting the shares at all-time highs and another on a dip while the market gained. The third is Fortinet being named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Hybrid Mesh Firewall. The fourth is a CISA warning about a heap-based buffer overflow flaw exploited in attacks.
By raw volume, Fortinet's coverage is well below Cisco (22,216 mentions) and Microsoft Security (21,221) and above Check Point (3,533) and SentinelOne (4,400).
Fortinet is ideal for small to mid businesses, offering affordable, high performance solutions…
The gap
The two stories overlap on hardware and firewalls. The press covers the ASIC partnership and the hybrid mesh firewall ranking, and the assistants credit custom ASICs and firewall performance. Gemini's NGFW answer even pointed to the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Hybrid Mesh Firewalls as a basis for its list.
The differences are in emphasis. The press headlines lean on the stock and on a specific, dated CISA advisory. The assistants mostly did not mention the stock or the advisory. Their financial framing appeared in one investor answer, and their security-record framing appeared mainly in the Grok vulnerability answer. Most of the answers treated Fortinet as one name in a vendor shortlist rather than a company with a news story attached.
Volume also does not map neatly onto visibility. Cisco has roughly two and a half times the news mentions of Fortinet in this index but fewer answer appearances in this snapshot.

What to watch
Comms teams should note where the assistants place Fortinet. Leadership and firewall questions surface it readily. Questions about value, detection effectiveness, incident transparency and vendors to avoid surfaced it far less. Those are the questions where a buyer is weighing risk, and this snapshot shows little presence there.
The Grok vulnerability answer shows that a question framed around security incidents can pull the company into a different narrative. It also shows the sources such answers draw on: CISA listings and third-party vendor assessments. Whether the CISA advisory in the current headlines reaches the assistants' answers is worth checking in future runs.
This is a single snapshot of live answers from five assistants. Answers vary between runs, so treat the figures as a starting benchmark, not a ranking or a trend.
