How the answers frame Cisco
This snapshot (measured 2026-09-29) covers 250 benchmark questions that never named a brand, put to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok. Cisco was named in 232 of the 1,250 answers. Grok (67 of 250) and ChatGPT (57 of 250) named it most often, and Claude (31 of 250) least often. Microsoft Security, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks and Fortinet were each named in more answers.
Cisco usually appeared as one entry in a list. In Claude's answer on the most trusted vendors, it sat in the 'Integrated Enterprise Security' slot alongside Microsoft Security, while Palo Alto Networks took the enterprise network lead. The answers tied Cisco to a few specific products and teams. Claude credited Cisco Talos with threat intelligence scale. ChatGPT named Cisco Duo as its first pick for a standalone multi-factor authentication provider. Perplexity described Cisco's technical support team as a strong resource. In ChatGPT's firewall answer, Cisco's Secure Firewall was framed around a hybrid-mesh, zero-trust and cloud-managed architecture.
By question intent, Cisco's visibility was highest on leadership questions (49%) and moderate on safety (27%) and innovation (23%). It was lowest on 'avoid' (3%), service (5%) and value (7%). Where the answers were tagged for what they credited Cisco with, most tags were 'Not Substantive', so the answers mostly listed Cisco without a specific attribute.
One answer went a different way. Gemini, asked whether any security companies had source code or internal tools leaked, named only Cisco among its brands. It described a 2026 incident in which attackers used credentials stolen in a supply-chain attack to reach Cisco's internal development environment. That is Gemini's account, and this snapshot does not verify it.
Cisco remains one of the most trusted enterprise vendors for secure connectivity…
What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index recorded 22,216 mentions of Cisco over the last 30 days, of which 3,236 had the brand in the headline. That is the highest mention count among the 15 cybersecurity peers in this dataset, slightly above Microsoft Security's 21,221.
The sampled headlines are about infrastructure and finance. They include a network engineering services expansion involving Cisco, HPE and Arista, a Bell agreement with Cisco on sovereign AI infrastructure, a silicon photonics market report naming Cisco with Intel, Broadcom and Marvell, an institutional stock-holding item, and Internet2 adding AI capacity to the National Research Platform with Cisco. None of these five headlines is about cybersecurity.
Cisco Talos represents the largest commercial threat intelligence team, processing telemetry from Cisco's massive installed base of security products.
The gap
In the press, Cisco is a heavily covered technology and AI-infrastructure company. In these answers, it is a security vendor that shows up in shortlists, usually behind or beside Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, CrowdStrike and Microsoft. Peers with much less coverage, such as CrowdStrike (15,010 mentions) and Palo Alto Networks (14,397), were named in more of the answers. Volume of press coverage did not translate into volume of security mentions in this snapshot.
The AI-infrastructure storylines in the news did not appear in the security answers sampled here. The answers instead drew on product and research identities: Talos, Duo, Secure Firewall and the support team. The one incident-related answer came from Gemini's account of the source-code breach, and the press headlines sampled here did not mention it.
Users describe Cisco TAC as a strong technical resource, particularly for complex troubleshooting.
What to watch
For a Cisco comms team, the takeaway is where Cisco appears and how it is described. It shows up on leadership and trust questions, but rarely on questions about value, service or what to avoid. Most answers named it without a specific reason, so an attribute such as Talos research or Duo pricing is a place where the framing could be shaped.
Track the incident-transparency questions (17% visibility here) and the leak question separately from the general trust answers. A single assistant, Gemini, carried the detailed breach account in this sample. These are single snapshots of live answers, and results will vary between runs, so treat them as a baseline to re-measure, not a ranking.
