How the answers frame Charter Communications
This snapshot, taken 29 September 2026, covers ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok. They answered 250 category questions each that never named a brand. Charter was named in 179 of the 1,250 answers. Verizon (599), AT&T (576), T-Mobile (506) and Comcast (297) were each named more often.
The eight stored answers we reviewed are a sample of those 179. In them, Charter usually sits inside a group. It appears among cable providers in a router-security ranking, a price-guarantee list, a complaint-handling ranking, a hiring list and a market-value list. In the price-guarantee and complaint answers the company shows up as "Spectrum" rather than Charter. The credit tags point the same way: five of the seven tagged mentions were "Not Substantive", with one each for Customer Experience and Financial Performance.
Grok named Charter in 64 of its 250 answers, more than double any other assistant (Gemini 32, ChatGPT 31, Claude 26, Perplexity 26). By question intent, Charter's visibility was highest on "avoid" questions (28%), then trust (22%) and service (20%). It was lowest on content catalog (1%) and employer questions (7%).
When an answer did characterize Spectrum, the framing was narrow and tied to one source or survey. Perplexity's complaint ranking placed Spectrum fifth of eight and described it as "roughly average customer satisfaction in one recent survey". Grok's dependability answer tied Spectrum to one Opensignal metric while crediting fiber providers for wider wins.

What the press is saying
PeakMetrics' news index shows 3,656 Charter mentions in the last 30 days, 606 with the brand in the headline. That is far below Verizon (23,125), T-Mobile (22,628) and Comcast (10,833). It is close to Cox Communications (3,487).
The recent headlines are mostly financial and deal-driven. They cover whether the stock is underperforming the Nasdaq, an investment firm taking a position in $CHTR, talk of restarting a preferred dividend, and a law firm congratulating clients on Charter's acquisition of Cox Communications.

The gap
The press describes a company in the middle of a large transaction and being judged by investors. In the answers we reviewed, the Cox deal did not surface as a theme. Charter was a name inside comparison lists on prices, complaints, reliability and jobs.
The two stories also differ in tone. Coverage is about capital markets. The answers are about what a household or job-seeker would pick. The one financial touchpoint in the sample was a Perplexity market-value answer that cited a dated 2023 figure for Charter, and the answer itself said such figures are dated.
Press volume and answer visibility also do not move together across peers. Charter has slightly more news than Cox but was named in more answers (179 against 102). Comcast has roughly three times Charter's news and was named in 297.
Opensignal’s May 2026 report gave Spectrum the national edge in one “Reliability” metric…
What to watch
Check how often the answers say "Spectrum" rather than "Charter". Any measurement of Charter's visibility in reputation-related questions should account for both names.
The "avoid" and trust questions produced Charter's highest visibility in this snapshot. Those are the questions where a supporting-role mention is most likely to shape a reader's view, so they are the first to review in full.
Grok accounts for over a third of Charter's appearances. A team tracking this should look at assistants separately, not as one pooled number.
Because the answers cite dated and third-party survey material, the sources behind those claims matter more than any single mention. These are single runs, and live answers vary between runs, so treat them as a baseline for repeat benchmark questions rather than a ranking.
