How the answers frame Charles Schwab
PeakMetrics put 250 benchmark questions that never named a brand to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok on 2026-09-29. Charles Schwab was named in 82 of the 1,250 answers. In the same snapshot JPMorgan Chase was named in 591, Bank of America in 469 and Wells Fargo in 372. Fidelity Investments appeared in 28. By provider, Grok named Schwab in 29 of its 250 answers, ChatGPT and Gemini in 16 each, Perplexity in 11 and Claude in 10.
The clearest storyline is travel checking. In the sampled answers to a question about banks for digital nomads, Claude and Perplexity both led with Schwab's investor checking account and its ATM fee reimbursement. Claude's answer said "Schwab accounts have no monthly maintenance fees, no foreign transaction fees, and offer unlimited worldwide ATM fee rebates". Perplexity described it as good for frequent ATM use abroad and noted that it is primarily a U.S.-dollar account, not a multi-currency one. Perplexity's college-student checking answer also listed Schwab Bank Investor Checking, with the caveat that it requires a linked Schwab brokerage account.
The second storyline is trading reliability. Gemini's answer on uptime during heavy market days listed Schwab's thinkorswim platform as "highly regarded for its stability" alongside Interactive Brokers, Lightspeed and Fidelity. In the same set, Gemini's answer on customer trust grouped Charles Schwab Bank with American Express National Bank among specialized institutions in its satisfaction discussion.
Some appearances were thin. In the sampled ChatGPT answers, Schwab surfaced mainly in the model's working notes on remote-work policy and international debit fees, and the visible recommendations went to Fidelity and American Express in one case and to Chase, Capital One, Bank of America and Citi in the other. The credited-for tags follow the same pattern: Not Substantive (4) and Price & Value (4) lead, with Customer Experience (1) and Reliability & Operations (1) behind them.
By question intent, Schwab's visibility was highest on value (16%), reliability (14%) and trust (12%). It was 2% on safety and 0% on sustainability and regulatory compliance.

What the press is saying
The PeakMetrics news index recorded 10,004 mentions of Schwab over the last 30 days, 888 of them with the brand in the headline. That is well below Morgan Stanley (102,303 mentions), Bank of America (100,429) and Goldman Sachs (92,123). It is above Capital One (15,891) and Fidelity Investments (2,524).
The recent headlines are about markets and technology. Several are stock commentary: one says the stock "Looks Fully Priced After A 99% Run", another asks whether it is underperforming the S&P 500, and a third previews the next earnings report. Two others cover a partnership with Anthropic to bring Claude to financial advisors.
Good for frequent ATM use abroad: it reimburses ATM fees worldwide and doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees.
The gap
The press story is about Schwab as a listed company and as an adopter of AI. The AI story is about Schwab as a product: a checking account that refunds ATM fees and a trading platform. None of the sampled answers touched the stock, earnings or the Anthropic deal.
Coverage volume also does not track answer volume across the sector. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have far more news mentions than Schwab but were named in 132 and 89 answers respectively. Schwab, at 82, is close to Morgan Stanley on answers with about a tenth of the coverage. Press attention and AI visibility are separate measures here.
What to watch
For a Schwab comms team, this snapshot suggests the assistants' picture of the brand is narrow and product-led. The travel and ATM-rebate claims came from cited web content, so the accuracy and freshness of those pages matter. Claude's answer, for example, said Schwab dropped a minimum deposit for international accounts in 2025, a detail worth checking against Schwab's own materials.
The categories where visibility was lowest, safety and regulatory compliance, are the ones where the sampled Grok answer on insuring balances above $250,000 also named Schwab. The visible portion of that answer does not show how Schwab was described, so reviewing the full text is a sensible next step.
These are single runs of live answers, and results vary between runs. Treat the figures as a dated reading of 2026-09-29, and repeat the benchmark questions before drawing conclusions about direction.
