How the answers frame Allegiant Air
This snapshot covers 250 benchmark questions put to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok on 2026-09-29, none naming a brand. Allegiant Air was named in 164 of the 1,250 answers. Grok named it most (63 of 250) and ChatGPT least (19 of 250). Among the airline peers in the data, Allegiant sits in the lower middle for visibility, well behind Delta (843 answers) and United (748) and close to Frontier (315) and Spirit (235) in kind, if not in volume.
Visibility varied with the question. By question intent, Allegiant showed up most in value questions (32%), then reliability and service (24% each) and avoid-style questions (21%). It barely appeared in innovation or loyalty questions (1% each). The brand is tied to price and operations, not to innovation or perks.
The 10 stored answers we read, a sample of the 164, show two sides. On baggage, Claude and Perplexity both said Allegiant had the lowest mishandled-bag rate among U.S. carriers in 2025. Perplexity added that this does not show how fairly claims are settled. On fees and disruption, Claude's hidden-fees answer and Gemini's toddler-travel answer grouped Allegiant with Frontier as a carrier to be wary of. Perplexity's carry-on answer said Allegiant typically includes only a small personal item.
A third thread is corporate. Gemini's ultra-low-cost answer called Allegiant "the Current Leader" following an acquisition of Sun Country Airlines. Grok's answer on the biggest low-cost carrier also referred to a 2026 Sun Country acquisition. These are the answers' claims, repeated here as attributed. The answers credited Allegiant for Reliability & Operations, Price & Value and Financial Performance, though many mentions were tagged not substantive.
Perplexity's Southeast routes answer put Allegiant behind Southwest, Spirit and Breeze. It described Allegiant as serving smaller cities and vacation destinations, with a network less suited to connecting between many Southeast cities.
Allegiant Air had the best baggage handling in 2025, recording the lowest rates for mishandled luggage among U.S.-based airlines.
What the press is saying
The PeakMetrics news index shows 906 mentions of Allegiant in the last 30 days. Only 7 carried the brand in the headline. That is well below American (32,472 mentions), United (19,913) and Delta (14,417). It is comparable to Frontier (943) and above Breeze (516).
The recent headlines are mostly informational or peripheral: a safety record and travel guide, a pilot salary explainer, an internship listing, and a report of a passenger removed over a mask, from a low-profile outlet. One headline covered seven new Florida routes. None is a major outlet's reputational story.
Frontier and Allegiant remain the most notorious for hidden fees among currently operating US airlines.
The gap
The assistants talk about Allegiant as a cost-and-operations brand. They credit it for baggage handling, set it against Frontier on fees, and describe its business model and acquisition. The press mentions in this window are thinner and more scattered. They are dominated by a safety explainer, job-market content and a route announcement, and none of them matches the baggage or fee themes.
The assistants' baggage credit and fee warnings appear in a few answers here, not in the headline sample. That suggests the AI story is being assembled from sources other than this month's coverage. This snapshot does not show which sources the assistants used for Allegiant.
These ultra-low-cost carriers often have lower passenger satisfaction scores and can be less forgiving during disruptions.
What to watch
A comms team would note three things. First, the baggage claim is the most repeatable positive framing in this sample, and Perplexity's caveat shows how it gets qualified. Second, fee and disruption language comes up in avoid-style questions, where Allegiant sits next to Frontier. Third, the acquisition narrative is carried by Gemini and Grok as fact, so any mismatch with the company's own position is worth checking.
These are single snapshots of live answers, and they vary between runs. Re-run the same benchmark questions before treating any of this as a pattern. The news index covers the last 30 days, and this snapshot does not show how the answers relate to it.
