How the answers frame Alaska Airlines
None of the questions named a brand. Alaska Airlines still appeared in 14 of 25 answers from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok. Grok named it in four of five, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity in three each, and Claude in one. In this snapshot, Delta appeared in more answers (20 of 25) and Southwest in slightly fewer (13).
Reliability was the main storyline. On "Which US airlines are the most reliable?", Alaska appeared in all five answers, usually as the carrier beside Delta. Grok's answer opened by saying Delta and Alaska "generally rank as the most reliable major US airlines". Claude's answer put Alaska second on on-time rate, behind Delta. Gemini tied Alaska to punctuality and to its merger with Hawaiian Airlines. ChatGPT called Alaska "also strong", depending on whether the reader cares more about punctuality or baggage and cancellations.
Customer service was the second thread. Four answers to "Which airlines have the best customer service?" named Alaska alongside Delta, Southwest and JetBlue, mostly through J.D. Power results. Gemini placed it third in first/business class and second in premium economy. Perplexity said Qualtrics cited Alaska as the airline with the best customer service in its index.
Sustainability was the third thread. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity named Alaska. Gemini and Perplexity both pointed to a net-zero-by-2040 goal, and ChatGPT pointed to fuel efficiency. Claude and Grok did not name it on that question. Alaska was otherwise thin in the other questions: it appeared for business travel in one Grok answer, only as a loyalty program mention, and it was named in Grok's "avoid" answer only as a carrier that frequently leads segments.
…is often among the best for punctuality, including being the most punctual North American carrier in the first half of 2026 in Cirium data reported by Travel + Leisure.
What the press is saying
The PeakMetrics news index recorded 3,138 mentions of Alaska Airlines in the last 30 days, 339 of them with the brand in the headline. The recent headlines are about network moves: a 50th nonstop from San Diego tied to a 40-year anniversary, more capacity at Paine Field in Everett, and a new Los Angeles to La Paz service. One headline reported that Alaska cut 10 routes from its winter schedule.
Among the six airlines in this sector comparison, Alaska had the smallest news volume. American Airlines had 32,299 mentions, United 19,798 and Delta 13,994.
…reported being the most fuel-efficient U.S. premium airline in 2025, with major operational fuel savings and growing work on electrification, SAF, and next-gen aircraft technologies.
The gap
The press story is about where Alaska flies and how its schedule is changing. The AI story is about how well it operates, how passengers rate it and how it approaches emissions. None of the sampled headlines mention punctuality, satisfaction scores or net-zero targets.
Coverage volume and answer visibility also diverge across the sector. American had the most press in this comparison but appeared in only 4 of 25 answers. Alaska had the least press and appeared in 14. Press coverage and AI visibility are different measures, and this snapshot shows them moving independently.
What to watch
For a comms team, the assistants' Alaska story rests on third-party sources: DOT data, Cirium, J.D. Power, Qualtrics and NerdWallet in the answers, plus Alaska's own impact report in ChatGPT's sustainability answer. What those sources publish, and how they describe Alaska, is what the assistants repeat.
Watch the questions where Alaska was absent from some assistants. Claude named it once, and it did not appear in most business travel answers. The sustainability thread also varied by assistant, with the 2040 target and fuel efficiency each carried by different answers.
This is one run on 28 September 2026 with one answer per assistant per question. Live answers vary between runs, so treat these findings as a baseline for later benchmarks rather than a ranking.
