Publisher’s rating:

The review reports that the insecticide used at the Expo did not contain Legionella and that detected bacteria levels did not exceed the stated guideline value. It also says there was no evidence that school closures in Osaka were more frequent than usual.

Publisher’s rating: false

DW reports that the video does not show the June 2025 Nairobi protests: its first segment comes from an earlier protest in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and its second shows a gathering in Nairobi on June 25, 2024. The review cites the earlier online posting and identifies locations in both segments using visible landmarks.

Publisher’s rating: 誤り

The Japan Fact-Check Center examined claims circulating alongside a swarm of earthquakes near the Tokara Islands in Kagoshima Prefecture in June and July 2025. The claims described a “Tokara law”: that swarms there are followed by major earthquakes elsewhere in Japan, and cited the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and other major earthquakes as examples. The review assessed whether the pattern was supported by scientific evidence, rather than whether earthquakes could ever happen after a Tokara swarm. The review reports that, from June 21 through July 1, more than 700 earthquakes of seismic intensity 1 or greater occurred in a swarm near the islands. It also describes the check it used: JFC interviewed Junichi Nakajima, an earthquake scientist and professor at the Institute of Science Tokyo, about whether the proposed connection had a scientific basis. Nakajima said it did not, and said the Tokara earthquakes were too small to affect a wide area or trigger earthquakes across Japan. The review gives a numerical comparison for 2000 onward: 29 earthquakes of magnitude 7 or greater around Japan and 18 Tokara earthquakes of magnitude 4 or greater, excluding earthquakes occurring in sequences within 10 days. It says the timing coincided in two cases, about 11 percent. Because Japan experiences a magnitude-7-or-greater earthquake about once a year, the review argues that apparent coincidences do not establish a predictive relationship; in the cited comparison, the timing did not coincide in the other 89 percent of cases. This supports rejecting the claimed rule as a scientifically established precursor, while not claiming that a major earthquake on any particular date is impossible.
