97,964 published reviews国民民主党が選挙後に消費税5%への減税とインボイス廃止を撤回?
Publisher’s rating: 誤り
The review examined a post-election claim that the Democratic Party for the People had dropped two pledges it made for the 2025 House of Councillors election: reducing the consumption tax to 5% and abolishing the invoice system. The claim circulated alongside images of two party policy posters, with a post asserting that both policies had quietly disappeared. The review reports that the claim was false and that the party had not withdrawn the policies. (S1) The poster comparison was incomplete evidence of a policy change. The party told the Japan Fact-Check Center that both posters were genuine: one was made for the 2024 House of Representatives election and posted by the party on X on October 19, 2024; the other was made for the 2025 House of Councillors election and posted by party leader Yuichiro Tamaki on June 26, 2025. The 2025 poster did not show the two pledges, but the review checked the party’s policy page, which still listed a uniform 5% consumption tax and abolition of the invoice system as of August 7, 2025. (S1) The party also responded directly to the review’s inquiry. It said its policy pamphlet filed with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications retained the 5% policy until real wages were sustainably positive, and denied changing course from a tax reduction to cash benefits. It further said that its 2024 priority policies and its June 17, 2025 election policies placed consumption-tax reduction and invoice-system abolition among its central policies for increasing take-home pay. The evidence described in the review therefore indicates that omission from one campaign poster did not amount to withdrawal of either policy. (S1)
