北九州市が50万人のインド人を受け入れ?

Publisher’s rating: 誤り

The claim under review was that Kitakyushu City would accept 500,000 people from India. The Japan Fact Check Center says the claim had circulated since at least September 2025 and describes a video post from November 29 that linked the alleged intake to discussions with the Indian government and a 10-trillion-yen investment. Its investigation traced the 500,000 figure to a different, national-scale Japan–India initiative, rather than a Kitakyushu plan. The Foreign Ministry’s initiative aims for more than 500,000 people in two-way personnel exchanges between Japan and India over five years. The review explains that the figure covers exchanges in both directions and includes people employed locally by Japanese companies operating in India, as well as training and study. It therefore does not mean that one Japanese city would receive 500,000 Indians. The review also reports that the 10-trillion-yen figure referred to a goal for private investment in India over ten years, not funding for the claimed Kitakyushu intake. For the city-specific part, the Center says Kitakyushu had signed a friendship and cooperation agreement with India’s Telangana state in June, but the city told the Center that no specific number of people had been decided and denied the 500,000-person claim. The review notes that Kitakyushu’s population in September 2025 was about 900,000. Its conclusion is that the national exchange target and local cooperation program do not establish a plan for Kitakyushu to accept 500,000 Indians.
