Fact Crescendo Sri Lanka

Images from the SLPP "Jana Satana" rally in Anuradhapura on September 12 show a record-breaking crowd and party figures with a Buddhist monk.

Publisher’s rating: Misleading

The review found that the images shared as record crowds at the rally were misleading: one showed a 2025 rally in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and several others showed signs of AI generation. It also found the image of party figures and a Buddhist monk around liquor bottles was AI-generated; those scenes did not appear in the rally’s live broadcast or genuine media coverage.

Fact Crescendo Sri LankaDisasters & emergencies

A viral video shows heavy rain and severe flooding in Nawalapitiya on September 20, 2026.

Publisher’s rating: Misleading

The review found that the viral video combined three clips: one showing Nawalapitiya flooding in early August, one showing flooding in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and one showing the Hangran Oya overflowing in Nawalapitiya on September 20. It concluded that only the final clip depicted the claimed event, although flooding in Nawalapitiya was real.

Fact Crescendo Sri LankaPolitics & government

Publisher’s rating: Misleading

Fact Crescendo found that the video did not show a protest supporting Namal: its review says the footage was from the previous year, when supporters gathered during the former president’s arrest. It also reports that footage of Namal being taken from court to prison did not contain the claimed chant. [S1]
