FACTLYWar & conflict

A MARCOS (Marine Commando Force, Navy Special Forces) commando named Abhishek Chakraborty led a secret RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) mission called “Operation Black Cobra” in 2016 at Pakistan’s Gwadar port, died after completing it, and was publicly awarded (posthumously) the Vir Chakra in 2025 when the mission was declassified

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

FACTLY reports finding no credible evidence for the alleged officer, mission, or posthumous award, and says Abhishek Chakraborty’s name does not appear in the 2025 gallantry awards list. It also found no valid reports of the mission’s declassification or the claimed funeral procession.

إيران تلتزم بتسليم صنعاء للحكومة الشرعية مقابل ضمانات سعودية صينية

Publisher’s rating: مضلل

The review says the claim that Iran agreed to hand Sana’a to Yemen’s internationally recognized government in exchange for Saudi-Chinese guarantees was unsupported: it found no such report on France 24 and no announcement from Saudi, Iranian, or Yemeni official bodies. It adds that the trilateral statement addressed support for a comprehensive political solution in Yemen, not a handover agreement.

The viral video shows Union Civil Aviation Minister dancing during the IndiGo flight crisis, implying he was celebrating while passengers were stranded.

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

FACTLY reports that the video predates the IndiGo disruption: it was uploaded on 30 July 2025 and shows Minister Rammohan Naidu dancing at a family wedding. The review says the wedding video was unrelated to the crisis, although passengers were stranded during the disruptions.

Publisher’s rating: Partly False

Fact Crescendo reports that the video had already been posted in 2024 as footage of an earthquake in Japan, so it was not footage of the earthquake on December 8, 2025. The review says it could not determine exactly where or when the video was recorded.

青森の地震は人工地震?

Publisher’s rating: 誤り

The review addresses posts suggesting that the earthquake off eastern Aomori on December 8, 2025, was artificially caused. It reports that the quake produced shaking of Japanese seismic intensity 6-upper in Aomori Prefecture and concludes that the artificial-earthquake allegation is false. The investigation’s central evidence is an explanation by Takashi Furumura, a University of Tokyo Earthquake Research Institute professor whom the Japan Fact-check Center says it has interviewed repeatedly about artificial earthquakes. Furumura distinguishes real, limited uses of artificially generated seismic sources from the claim that people could produce a destructive, disaster-scale earthquake. He says artificial sources—including explosions, falling weights, and compressed air released underwater—are used in surveys of underground structures. But he calls artificially producing a major earthquake unrealistic: he compares the energy of a 5-megaton 1971 Alaska nuclear test to a magnitude 6.9 earthquake, and says producing a magnitude-7-class quake would require a nuclear bomb of that scale, while a magnitude-9-class quake would require a thousand times as much. The review also describes physical and observational constraints. It reports that the relevant earthquakes occur tens of kilometers below the surface or seabed, beyond the drilling depths it gives for the research vessel Chikyu and the deepest land drilling cited. It adds that global seismic stations record and publish earthquake-wave data, and that the review’s expert describes differences between explosion-generated and natural-earthquake P- and S-waves as a means of distinguishing them. The review concludes that the scale and depth constraints make the claim that this Aomori earthquake was artificially caused untenable; it does not present a separate analysis of this event’s seismic records in the supplied excerpt.
