Screenshot Of Netscape Browser Download Time Was Around 39 Years !!
Publisher’s rating: Altered
The review examined a viral image said to show a Netscape Browser setup download with 39 years remaining. It concluded that the image was misleading because details shown in it do not fit together. The review reports that the executable file named Cc32e47.exe was about 19 MB, while the screenshot gives a much larger file size: “The real file size for the Netscape Browser executable (Cc32e47.exe) was around 19 MB, almost ten times less than that mentioned in the viral image.” A key numerical check compared the screenshot’s reported 8.89 MB downloaded out of 180 MB with its progress indicator. The review says the indicator reads 0.49%, but that amount downloaded is about 5% of 180 MB, not 0.49%: “8.89MB of 180MB is not 0.49% of the file size; it should be around 5%. (8.89/180*100)” These mismatches undermine the screenshot’s apparent download figures. The review also points to the cancel button’s alignment and lowercase lettering as reasons to doubt the image’s authenticity. It does not establish precisely how or by whom the screenshot was altered; its conclusion rests on the reported discrepancies and appearance. It acknowledges that a 39-year estimate is theoretically possible, but says it appears unrealistic and that the other inconsistencies further call the depicted download time into question.
