The claim concerns the assertion that Sourav Ganguly was still president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), with his term ending in September 2022, and characterizes that assertion as a rumor. The review’s central viral claim was that Ganguly had resigned. It explains that speculation followed a June 1, 2022, tweet in which he announced that he was beginning something new, but that the announcement concerned an education app rather than a departure from the BCCI. The article states that he “launched an education app” and says this brought the resignation rumors to an end. The review reports two forms of corroboration. It says BCCI secretary Jay Shah spoke to the news agency ANI and dismissed the resignation rumors. It also cites a statement from Dainik Jagran’s digital sports head, Viplav Kumar, that Ganguly remained BCCI president and that his term ran through September of that year. The article’s conclusion is that Ganguly had not resigned; it says he had become president in October 2019 and that his term was due to end in September 2022. Thus the review supports the underlying claim about his position and term, while rejecting the resignation story that prompted the rumors. The review also supplies context for why the speculation spread: it says that after Ganguly’s ambiguous tweet, some people speculated about his entering politics, and that speculation intensified after Home Minister Amit Shah dined at Ganguly’s home in May. The article presents those events as the setting for the online claims, not as evidence that Ganguly had resigned.

The claim concerns a photo of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao handing boxer Nikhat Zareen a cheque. It was shared as if Rao had given her ₹50 lakh after she won gold at the 2022 Women’s World Boxing Championships. The review says its investigation found the claim misleading because the image was old, not a recent photograph of a post-victory award. To check the image’s history, the review reports using Google reverse image search. That search located a Deccan Chronicle report published on 31 March 2019 which included the same image. According to the review, that report described Rao handing Zareen a ₹50 lakh cheque in Hyderabad, while ten athletes were honoured. This supports the cheque’s existence but places the ceremony years before Zareen’s 2022 world title. The review also cites an earlier appearance of the photograph: it says AIMIM chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi had shared it on Facebook on 16 August 2014. It separately places Zareen’s world title in Istanbul, where she beat Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas in the 52 kg final. Together, the reported image history and event chronology show why presenting the old cheque ceremony as a reward following that later gold-medal win is misleading.

Video of Cameraman winning a race amongst professional runners

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns a video presented as showing a cameraman winning a race against professional runners. FACTLY’s review says the footage is not a real race: it identifies the video as a Powerade commercial that staged an Olympic-style event in South Africa. The review attributes the commercial’s direction to Jake S Wynne and Jim Canty. To identify the footage, the review reports using reverse image search on screenshots from the circulating video. That search found a video with similar visuals on YouTube, which the review identified as a Powerade advertisement. It also says a search for relevant keywords located the same video on the commercial’s director Jake S Wynne’s official website. The review therefore concludes that the clip was an advertisement rather than a genuine professional race. The article distinguishes this commercial from a separate, similar video that went viral in China. In that account, a college student from Datong University outran runners in a 100-meter campus race while holding a camera, and was reportedly responsible for filming the event. That separate incident does not make the commercial footage a real race; the review’s conclusion applies to the video in the claim.
