Angola, an African Nation banned Islam and is destroying mosques
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
FACTLY examined social-media posts alleging that Angola had banned Islam and was destroying mosques. It says its keyword searches found no recent news reports or credible sources confirming either allegation, and that the same claim had circulated since 2013 alongside misleading pictures of destroyed buildings. The review also reports that Angola’s government had addressed the allegation in 2013: officials said there was no ban on Islam and no war against Islam or another religion. They clarified that some mosques had been destroyed or closed because they were built without government approval, while other mosques operated without problems. The review distinguishes a nationwide ban from the regulation of religious groups and buildings. It cites the U.S. Department of State’s 2022 Report on International Religious Freedom, describing Angola’s constitution as establishing a secular state that guarantees religious freedom and bars discrimination. It also says unregistered groups may be shut down and that official recognition is subject to criteria, including a requirement that a religion be practiced by more than 100,000 people and be present in at least two-thirds of the country. The review notes that people may follow a faith even if it is not officially recognized. Its evidence therefore supports the conclusion that the broad claim conflates the absence of official recognition and past closures of unauthorized mosques with a ban on Islam and ongoing mosque destruction.

Visuals of exclusive Islamic prayers conducted during the Congress party office inauguration in Jaipur, Rajasthan
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerns a video of Islamic prayers that was presented as footage from the inauguration of a new Congress party office in Jaipur, Rajasthan, with the implication that no Hindu rituals took place. The investigation identifies the setting instead as a Congress office event on 31 October 2023, held to mark the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi and the birth anniversary of Vallabhbhai Patel. It reports that the gathering included interfaith prayers, not exclusively Islamic prayers. [S1: “A video that captures several individuals engaged in Islamic prayers is being widely shared on social media claiming that this footage was taken during the inauguration of a new Congress party office in Jaipur, where only Islamic prayers were observed, with no Hindu rituals taking place.”] [S1: “This video was recorded at an event where interfaith prayers from all religions were conducted to commemorate the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi and the birth anniversary of Vallabhbhai Patel. This event took place at the Congress party office in Jaipur on 31 October 2023.”] The review describes tracing the viral footage to a livestream from the Facebook account “Heena Khan.” Although the reviewer could not locate the viral video on her profile, they found images she had posted on 31 October 2023 and compared the woman in those images with the person in the circulating video. The review identifies the woman as Heena Khan, General Secretary of the Jaipur District Congress Committee. [S1: “Upon careful examination of the viral video, it was discovered that the footage was live-streamed from the account ‘Heena Khan’. Using this information, we searched her Facebook profile but were unable to locate the viral video. However, we did find images posted by the user on the death anniversary of former PM Indira Gandhi on 31 October 2023.”] [S1: “Upon further comparison, it was confirmed that the woman in the viral video is indeed Heena Khan, the General Secretary of the Jaipur District Congress Committee.”] The review also describes corroboration for the event and for the omitted prayers: Congress leader Namo Narain Meena posted that an interfaith meeting took place at the Jaipur party office that day, and the review reports that another video captured people singing “Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram.” It further cites a DD News video showing prayers by various religious communities and says Heena Khan and Sangeeta Beniwal confirmed that the circulated clip was incomplete. Thus, the misleading impression of exclusivity comes from presenting a partial clip as if it showed the whole event. [S1: “In his post, he stated that an interfaith meeting was conducted at the party office in Jaipur on that day.”] [S1: “Moreover, Sangeeta Beniwal, Chairperson of Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights also posted a video where the people can be heard singing the song ‘Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram’.”] [S1: “Furthermore, Heena Khan and Sangeeta Beniwal have confirmed that the clip being circulated is incomplete and that prayers from all religions were indeed performed during the event.”]
Videonun Gazze’ye destek çağrısı yaptığı için tutuklanan Suudi imamı gösterdiği iddiası
Publisher’s rating: Yanlış
The claim concerns a video said to show a Saudi imam being arrested for calling for support for Gaza. The review instead traces the footage to reporting from Saudi Arabia in March 2018, well before the Gaza-centred conflict referenced in the claim. It says the video appeared in reports about an incident during Friday prayers in the Medina–Yanbu area: an elderly man climbed onto the pulpit intending to preach and was removed after refusing to step down. The review compares accounts from Saudi news reports and cites Majid Al-Muhammadi, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Islamic Affairs’ Medina branch. According to the review, he confirmed the incident and said the man was mentally ill. The accounts described security forces removing the man from the pulpit, after which prayers took place. The review also notes that some activists questioned the official explanation and interpreted the incident as the removal of a preacher critical of Saudi authorities and an entertainment institution. That reported dispute does not connect the footage to Gaza. The decisive evidence presented is the video’s earlier provenance and the accounts of the 2018 Medina–Yanbu incident. The review concludes that the footage has no connection to the Gaza-centred conflict and that the claim is false.
Just got to know that there might be an ugly shopping complex coming up right next to the East Gopuram of the Thiruvannamalai temple on the temple land, thanks to @tnhrcedept official’s greed! If true, this is a neglect of TN temples taken to another level! The visuals are shocking. How can something be allowed to come up so close to a heritage structure? The construction activity alone could damage the gopuram.
