A post shared widely on TikTok on October 1, 2024, contains an audio clip of Sir Keir Starmer saying: “If you don’t like the changes that we’ve made, I say the door is open and you can leave.” This is also written in large text at the top of the video and in the description of the post.
Publisher’s rating: The clip is a genuine one of Sir Keir speaking, although it has been edited and re-ordered. But it has been presented out of context, as it was originally delivered in February 2023, with Sir Keir inviting those who disagreed with his changes to the Labour Party to end their membership. This was more than a year before Sir Keir became Prime Minister.
