El documento de Pedralbes «habla de mediación internacional»

Publisher’s rating: Falso

The claim concerns Pablo Casado’s assertion that the Pedralbes document posted on the Moncloa website referred to international mediation. Newtral says the document did not mention international mediation. It points to the section on the “mesa de partidos,” which describes a person who would coordinate work, arrange meetings, set the agenda, help create conditions for dialogue, and record agreements. The article distinguishes that document from a separate set of 21 negotiating points that the Catalan president said he had given to Spain’s prime minister after their meeting. Newtral says those points did refer to international mediation, but that document was not posted on Moncloa’s website. The distinction is central: the mediation reference was in the separate points, not in the Pedralbes document identified in Casado’s claim.

Claim: Priyanka Chathurvethi hits congress and Kushboo

Publisher’s rating: Fact Crescendo Rating: False

The review examined a viral TNNews24 headline and story that appeared to suggest Khushbu had left Congress after a controversy involving unwanted touching. It investigated the accompanying allegation that Priyanka Chaturvedi, after leaving Congress, had responded to a reporter’s question about Khushbu by saying she had self-respect and therefore left. The review’s conclusion was that the story falsely attributed that exchange to Chaturvedi. The review places the two women’s departures in separate circumstances. It says Khushbu was a Congress spokesperson and had slapped a man after alleging that he touched her inappropriately amid a crowd at an election campaign event in Karnataka. Chaturvedi, also a Congress spokesperson, announced on April 19 that she was leaving the party and joined Shiv Sena that day. The review says Chaturvedi’s departure followed her complaint that party members had behaved improperly toward her at a Congress event in Mathura the previous year, and that the accused members were later reinstated after pressure from Maharashtra state leaders. To check the alleged interview, the review searched Google for the story and for interviews Chaturvedi had given. It found no other outlet reporting the quoted exchange and located two videos from April 19: a press interview when she joined Shiv Sena and an exclusive interview with ANI. The review reports that neither video contains the alleged question or any mention of Khushbu. It also notes that another report about Chaturvedi’s resignation did not mention the supposed Khushbu exchange. On this evidence, it concluded that TNNews24’s headline and story were misleading and that the attributed remark was unsupported by the available interview footage.

Nehru was kissed by a lady in the presence of Mohd. Ali Jinnah

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The claim concerns a photograph presented as showing Jawaharlal Nehru being kissed by a woman while Mohd. Ali Jinnah was present. FACTLY identifies the woman as Nayantara Sehgal, Nehru’s niece and the daughter of his sister Vijaya Laxmi. That identification changes the context in which the image was shared: the photograph shows a family greeting, rather than establishing the insinuation made in the post. The review says the photograph was taken when Nehru arrived at London Airport in 1955. To check the scene, it points to a British Pathé newsreel recording of his arrival. According to FACTLY, the footage shows United Kingdom Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden greeting Nehru, and does not show Jinnah. The review therefore finds that the image was circulated with misleading framing: it depicts Nehru’s niece greeting him at the airport, not the claimed encounter in Jinnah’s presence.

Irene Montero se ha reunido con Arnaldo Otegi y Joan Tardà en Suiza

Publisher’s rating: Falso

The claim arose from a real photograph of a meeting in Switzerland, but the review says the woman in the image was misidentified as Irene Montero. It reports that the woman was Marta Vilalta, ERC spokesperson and a member of the Catalan Parliament, and says both ERC and the Unidas Podemos team confirmed that identification. The review places the image amid an actual political meeting: EH Bildu and ERC formalized a strategic agreement in Geneva on 19 April 2019. It identifies those present in the party’s published photograph as including Arnaldo Otegi, Joan Tardà, Marta Vilalta and ERC secretary general Marta Rovira. Other attendees named by the review included EH Bildu congressional candidates Bel Pozueta and Mertxe Aizpurua, and Senate candidate Gorka Elejabarrieta. To support the identification, the review compares the woman’s clothing in the circulating image with her clothing in the photograph published by EH Bildu: it says the black jacket, white top and black shoes with white soles match. Thus, the meeting and the photograph were genuine, but the woman shown with Otegi and Tardà was Vilalta, not Montero.

El discurso subtitulado de Vladimir Putin

Publisher’s rating: Falso

Newtral examined a widely shared video in which subtitles attributed accusations to Vladimir Putin, including claims about a “diabolical plan” to turn people homosexual and mutilate girls’ genitals. The review says those subtitles were false and did not correspond to what Putin actually said. To check the video, Newtral consulted the Russia Today (RT) archive and identified the footage as part of Putin’s annual Victory Day address on 9 May 2016. The review says he was addressing Russian military personnel and senior army officials, and that the speech recalled the conflict between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. That setting and the speech’s content contradict the impression created by the subtitles: according to the review, Putin was not addressing other world leaders. It reports that he said peace does not establish itself and that Russia was open to joining efforts with other states.
