Usted tuvo la oportunidad de cerrar las embajadas catalanas que tanto daño hacen en España y en el mundo

Publisher’s rating: Falso

Dolors Montserrat made the statement to Josep Borrell during a Cadena SER debate on 20 May about the European elections. The article reports that she reproached him for keeping Catalonia’s overseas offices open and said he had had the opportunity to close them. It examines whether the Spanish government could legally shut those offices, rather than whether the offices’ activities were harmful.

Claim: TN Minister Rajendra Balaji speech in a TV show

Publisher’s rating: TRUE

Fact Crescendo checked whether a Facebook video showing Tamil Nadu minister Rajendra Balaji speaking on a Thanthi TV programme was genuine. The review says the footage came from the programme “Makkal Mandram,” where Naam Tamilar Katchi member Kaliyammal and AMMK’s Thanga Tamilselvan also took part. In the segment described, Kaliyammal called for a TASMAC liquor shop behind a Kamarajar statue to be closed. Balaji initially said there was no such shop near a Kamarajar statue in Tamil Nadu; after Kaliyammal and the host identified one in Allampatti, he said steps would be taken to close it. He then criticised the DMK and AMMK. The review distinguishes that brief shop-related clip from the Facebook post under examination, which compiled roughly ten minutes of footage. To check the longer video, the publisher says it searched for the full Makkal Mandram programme and found it on Thanthi TV’s official YouTube channel. The review reports that the programme was held on May 4 and that the channel uploaded it on May 11. It compared the Facebook footage with the full programme and found the same Balaji speaking segments in both. On that basis, Fact Crescendo concluded that the Facebook post showed genuine footage, rather than a fabricated speech.

Claim: Modi worked as a Tourist Guide

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

Fact Crescendo investigated a Facebook post that paired an old photograph of Narendra Modi with the claim that he had worked as a tourist guide. The review says it checked the photograph’s authenticity and provenance, rather than treating the post’s caption as evidence of Modi’s occupation. It noticed a BCCL watermark, identified BCCL as belonging to the Times of India group, and used reverse-image search to find the same photograph in an earlier Economic Times photo gallery. (The review’s account of the check is in Tamil.)

Digvijay Singh said he will even beat Shivling with a chappal, if required, to remove Modi

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerned a Facebook post displaying what appeared to be an AajTak breaking-news screenshot and attributing to Digvijay Singh a remark about beating a Shivling with a chappal to remove Modi from power. The review says the screenshot was fabricated and that Singh did not make the quoted comments. To check the attribution, the review reports searching the internet for news of the alleged remarks and finding no results. It reasoned that such controversial comments by a senior politician would have been covered by media outlets, but says it found no such coverage. The review therefore concludes that the post’s attribution was false; the excerpt provides no direct recording or transcript of Singh’s remarks.
