Sánchez made the statement while defending his proposed “government of cooperation” with Unidas Podemos in an interview on Informativos Telecinco. He argued that his record showed he did not treat power as his own, citing ministers including those for Defence, the Interior, Justice and Science as independent. Newtral’s review compared that claim with the political affiliations and prior roles of the ministers he had appointed. The review distinguishes being unaffiliated from having no prior connection to the PSOE. In the original 17-member cabinet formed after the no-confidence motion that brought Sánchez to government, it counted five people who neither belonged to the PSOE nor had held a related role: Dolores Delgado, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, Màxim Huerta, Nadia Calviño and Pedro Duque. It treated other ministers as party members, party leaders or people with earlier PSOE-linked public roles. De éstos, cinco no pertenecían al PSOE ni habían ocupado algún cargo o similar relacionado con el partido”] For the later count relevant to the statement, the review says six of Sánchez’s 19 ministers lacked PSOE membership or a prior connection. It notes that Margarita Robles, although not affiliated with the party, had run on Sánchez’s 2016 electoral list, served as his parliamentary spokesperson and had held a state-secretary post under earlier PSOE governments. The review therefore judged the claimed “practically half” too high: its count was about one-third.

Claim: Separate Passport and Flag for Nagaland
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The review examines a social-media claim that the Indian government had agreed to give Nagaland its own flag and passport. It traces the claim to a OneIndia Tamil headline shared on Facebook on June 30, 2019. The headline posed the question of whether the government had agreed, but the article’s opening reportedly said that it had: “நாகாலாந்துக்கு தனி பாஸ்போர்ட், தனி கொடி… ஒப்புக் கொண்டது மத்திய அரசு?” என்று ஒன் இந்தியா தமிழில் செய்தி வெளியாகி உள்ளது. இதை 2019 ஜூன் 30ம் தேதி அவர்களுடைய ஒன்இந்தியா தமிழ் ஃபேஸ்புக் பக்கத்தில் பகிர்ந்துள்ளனர். To check the assertion, the review compared the story’s account of an eight-point agreement with other reporting and with statements attributed to officials. It says the Imphal Times account described reports circulating in northeastern newspapers, rather than confirming that an agreement had been signed: “இந்திய அரசுக்கும் நாகாலாந்து தேசிய சோஷலிஸ்ட் கவுன்சிலுக்குமான பேச்சு வார்த்தை இறுதியை எட்டியுள்ளது என்று வட கிழக்கு மாநிலங்களில் வெளியாகும் பல்வேறு பத்திரிகைகளில் செய்தி வெளியாகி உள்ளது. நாகாலாந்து தேசிய சோஷலிஸ்ட் கவுன்சிலின் எட்டு அம்ச கோரிக்கையை இந்திய அரசு ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு இரு தரப்பும் கையெழுத்திட்டதாகவும் கூறப்படுகிறது”. The review also notes that the Nagaland English report it found described willingness to resolve the issue, not acceptance of the separate passport and other specific demands: “நாகாலாந்துக்கு என தனி பாஸ்போர்ட், கொடி, அரசியலமைப்பு சட்டம் உள்ளிட்டவற்றை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டதாக உள்துறை அமைச்சர் கூறியதாக இதில் குறிப்பிடவில்லை. நாகாலாந்து பிரச்னையை விரைவில் தீர்க்க இந்திய அரசு முன்வந்துள்ளது என்றே குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளனர்.” The review further reports that the final agreement was still being drafted after a 2015 peace accord, and that the government had kept its proposed terms confidential. It cites a 2016 denial by then junior home minister Kiren Rijiju that reports of a separate flag and passport were true. On that evidence, the review concludes that the claim of government approval was not substantiated: “இந்த ஆதாரங்களின் அடிப்படையில் மேற்கண்ட செய்தி உண்மையில்லை, வதந்தியை ஒரு செய்தியாக வெளியிட்டுள்ளனர் என்பது உறுதியாகிறது.”

Mahua Moitra's speech in Lok Sabha plagiarised
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The Quint examined the allegation made after Zee News claimed that Mahua Moitra’s maiden Lok Sabha speech on 25 June 2019 was plagiarised from Martin Longman’s 2017 Washington Monthly article, “The 12 Early Warning Signs of Fascism.” The report’s account distinguishes the article from the source Moitra said she used: Longman wrote about a poster listing early signs of fascism, while Moitra said in her speech that she was referring to that same poster. The Quint therefore judged the plagiarism allegation false. The report describes checking Moitra’s speech video. At 9:12, it says, she identified the source as a poster at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and said that seven signs she discussed appeared on it. The article also quotes a press statement in which Moitra said her source was a poster created by political scientist Laurence W. Britt, listing 14 signs, and that she had selected seven she considered relevant to India. These details support the report’s distinction between discussing ideas or signs also covered in Longman’s article and claiming that the article itself was the source of her speech. The report records two further pieces of relevant evidence: Longman denied that Moitra had plagiarised him, and Moitra’s account of the poster’s museum display had a qualification. The article says Snopes had debunked the claim that the poster was exhibited in the museum, reporting instead that it was available in the museum gift shop for some time. That correction bears on Moitra’s description of the poster’s location; it does not, by itself, establish plagiarism. The report also notes that Zee News later accused her of quoting the article or poster “out of context,” a different allegation from its initial claim that she stole the speech’s words.
90-year-old Motilal Vora trying to touch the feet of Rahul Gandhi.
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerned a viral photo in which a man is bending near Rahul Gandhi. The accompanying post identified him as 90-year-old Motilal Vora and said he was trying to touch Gandhi’s feet. FACTLY’s investigation concluded that the man in the photo was instead Chhattisgarh Congress leader Tribhuvaneshwar Saran Singh Deo, also known as TS Singh Deo. This directly addresses the identity asserted in the claim. [S1]
