The Facebook post claimed that the press ignored Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s appearance at the 29 August demonstration against coronavirus restrictions in Berlin. The review examined whether reporting about that specific speech appeared in the media; it does not describe a systematic survey or explain a broader method for measuring press coverage. The review points to multiple reports that mentioned Kennedy’s speech. It says dpa reports published on the day of the demonstration were carried by the websites of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Die Welt. It also notes that the Stuttgarter Nachrichten mentioned his appearance in its second paragraph, while the Tagesspiegel included a photograph of him speaking. Those examples directly contradict the absolute claim that the press ignored the appearance. The review adds that some coverage focused on Kennedy himself: t-online discussed how he was able to travel to Germany, and the taz and Neues Deutschland published articles about his appearance and his role in the anti-vaccination movement. Thus the evidence cited goes beyond brief mentions in general demonstration reports. The claim that the press ignored his appearance is not supported by the examples in the review.

«L’ex tesoriere Pd Zanda e l’ex senatrice democratica Finocchiaro il 4 novembre del 2008 presentarono un disegno di legge in cui chiedevano di modificare gli articoli 56 e 57 della Costituzione per tagliare a 400 deputati e 200 senatori il numero degli eletti, senza prevedere i correttivi che oggi invocano come giustificazione al No»
Publisher’s rating: Vero
The review examines whether Luigi Zanda and Anna Finocchiaro supported a 2008 proposal to reduce the size of Parliament to 400 deputies and 200 senators, despite later opposing a comparable reduction. It identifies an important timing distinction: Zanda presented the constitutional bill to the Senate on 4 November 2008; Finocchiaro was not listed as a signatory until 11 December 2009, when she joined as a co-signatory. So the proposal was Zanda’s on the stated 2008 date, but the evidence does not support saying that both presented it that day. The bill proposed changing Articles 56 and 57 of the Constitution. The review says it would reduce the number of deputies from 630 to 400 and senators from 315 to 200, with corresponding reductions in the seats allocated abroad. Its regional minimum for senators was five, except for Molise and Valle d’Aosta. The review compares this proposal with the 2019 reform put to a referendum: both set the totals at 400 deputies and 200 senators, but differed on the regional minimum and on a provision concerning senators appointed for life. The review also considers the claim about missing corrective measures in light of the reasons Zanda and Finocchiaro later gave for opposing the referendum measure. It reports that Finocchiaro’s objections included effects on parliamentary functioning, representation, and the election of the president, and says that objections to the reduced numbers could also have been made about the 2008 proposal she later signed. It concludes that the earlier proposal was substantially similar, while noting that changing one’s position remained legitimate. The evidence therefore supports the central comparison, with the qualification that Finocchiaro signed later, not on the bill’s 2008 presentation date.

The claim concerns a Facebook post attributing to then Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn support for raising the retirement age to 70, alongside the remark that people would still have a good chance of receiving a pension for ten years and that this was enough. The review says the Federal Health Ministry confirmed that the statement was not a Spahn quote: “Das Bundesgesundheitsministerium hat bestätigt, dass es sich nicht um ein Zitat von Spahn handelt.” The review distinguishes that alleged wording from Spahn’s documented position. It reports that he had argued for linking the retirement age to rising life expectancy, citing a 2019 “Bild” talk in which he said, “dass wenn wir länger leben werden, wir auch länger arbeiten werden müssen,” and remarks made at a 2018 CDU leadership-candidate event: “Mit der steigenden Lebenserwartung muss auch das Renteneintrittsalter ab 2030 weiter steigen.” Those statements support the review’s distinction between a general proposal to adjust retirement age and the specific ten-years-of-pension quote in the post. The article also supplies policy context rather than evidence for the Facebook wording: it says the government’s pension commission proposed a reform package in March that did not include a higher retirement age, while the rules then in force were set to increase the age gradually to 67 by 2031. The review therefore does not treat discussion of a rising retirement age as proof that Spahn made the particular statement attributed to him.
The Facebook post combines two statements and attributes the whole passage to constitutional scholar Hans Herbert von Arnim, without naming a source. The review distinguishes the sentences rather than treating the combined quotation as a single verified passage. Its investigation located the first sentence, in slightly altered wording, in von Arnim’s 2001 book *Das System*. The wording printed in the book begins, “Im Laufe der Zeit wurde hinter der demokratischen Fassade ein System installiert” and continues with the comparison to rules under the Basic Law. That book passage supports the attribution of the first sentence’s substance to von Arnim, but does not establish that he wrote the second sentence or the Facebook post’s full formulation. The agency says it asked von Arnim through his publisher’s press office about the combined quotation. His response was that he definitely did not write it in that combination and that the second sentence was not his. Thus, the post joins material with different evidentiary status: a slightly modified sentence traceable to his book and an added sentence he disavowed. The review also notes that a similar version of the purported quotation had previously been checked by the agency on July 29, 2020. The supplied text does not give further details of that earlier check, so it does not establish whether the earlier post or wording was identical.
Image of a purported excerpt from Pranab Mukherjee’s book which reads that Sonia Gandhi took offence of his praise over Narendra Modi’s one year tenure as PM
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerns an image presented as an excerpt from Pranab Mukherjee’s book *The Presidential Years*. It purportedly says Sonia Gandhi took offence at Mukherjee praising Narendra Modi’s first year as prime minister. The review reports that the image circulated on social media and describes the text as alleging an awkward exchange between Mukherjee and Gandhi. The review’s central check was whether the book was available at the time the purported passage was being shared. [S1: “A post with the image of a purported excerpt from Pranab Mukherjee’s book which reads that Sonia Gandhi took offence of his praise over Narendra Modi’s one year tenure as PM.”; “The so-called excerpt describes an awkward moment between Pranab Mukherjee and Sonia Gandhi”] The review says the book had not yet been released. It reports that Rupa Publications, which had acquired the book’s rights, planned to publish it on Mukherjee’s birth anniversary, 11 December 2020. As support, the reviewer says a search for reporting on Mukherjee’s book led to news articles, including one dated 1 September 2020 that described the planned release. The review therefore concluded that the image could not be a genuine excerpt from a book that had not yet been published and characterized it as fabricated. [S1: “The book ‘The Presidential Years’ from which the purported excerpt is picked from is not yet released.”; “Rupa Publications which acquired the rights of the book is planning to release the book later this year on Pranab Mukherjee’s birth anniversary i.e. on 11 December 2020.”; “According to one such news article dated 01 September 2020, the book titled ‘The Presidential Years’ penned by Pranab which chronicles his journey as President of India is planned to be released later this year on Pranab’s birth anniversary i.e. on 11 December 2020.”]
