Photos and a video of anti-Modi protests during Modi’s recent US visit
Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING
The claim concerns photos and a video circulated as showing anti-Modi protests during his recent visit to the United States. FACTLY’s review concludes that the visuals are from 2019, not that visit: the photos show protests outside the Houston venue where Modi attended the ‘Howdy Modi’ event, while the video shows demonstrations in Los Angeles about the Modi-led government’s actions in Kashmir. The review therefore distinguishes the old visuals from reports of protests during the later visit. [S1]
Video of US Vice President Kamala Harris explaining her elopement story with PM Narendra Modi
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerns a video shared as showing US Vice President Kamala Harris speaking in Hindi during her meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington, and explaining an elopement story. The review places the meeting on 23 September 2021 and reports that its investigation found the circulating video had been edited, rather than showing Harris making those remarks. To check whether Harris had made the alleged statements at the meeting, the review says it searched for her remarks and compared the claim with what she said there. It reports that she spoke in English and “did not utter a single word in Hindi.” This directly contradicts the video’s purported setting and content. The review also investigated the audio’s provenance. Listening to the background audio, it heard a woman explaining reasons for eloping; keyword searches led it to an original video on the News Express YouTube channel, which it describes as showing a girl explaining why she eloped with her boyfriend. The review concludes that this audio was substituted into footage of the Harris–Modi meeting, making the shared clip an edit rather than an authentic record of Harris telling the story.

US Vice President Kamala Harris tweeted regarding her meeting with Zambian President but ignored tweeting her meeting with Indian PM Narendra Modi
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim was that Kamala Harris tweeted about meeting Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema but did not tweet about meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. FACTLY’s review says Harris did post about Modi: on 24 September 2021, she shared a clip of their meeting and wrote that they had discussed reaffirming the U.S.–India strategic partnership and working together on global issues. That directly contradicts the claim that she ignored the Modi meeting.

The New York Times calls PM Modi as the ‘Last, Best Hope Of Earth’.
Publisher’s rating: False
The claim concerns an image shared on social media that appears to show a New York Times front page describing Narendra Modi as the “Last, Best Hope of Earth.” FACTLY examined whether that was a genuine lead article on the newspaper’s Sunday edition of 26 September 2021. It reports that the actual front page was different and had been altered to add the supposed article. The review describes several checks on the image. It notes that “September” is misspelled as “SETPEMBER,” and that the image’s volume number and newspaper cost differ from the actual edition. It also says the fonts and wording do not match the newspaper’s usual presentation. These discrepancies support the conclusion that the image is not an authentic front page, rather than evidence that the newspaper published the claimed description of Modi. FACTLY also reports that a reverse-image search found the same photograph of Modi in other articles, identifying it as a picture taken on 12 March 2021 while he signed the visitor’s book at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. The review traces “Last Best Hope of Earth” to Abraham Lincoln’s 1862 message to Congress, where he used the phrase in reference to the United States, freedom, and democracy. It further says The New York Times clarified on 29 September 2021 that the shared image was fabricated.
