Claim: misleading being shared as modi not receiving much reception in abroad
Publisher’s rating: Missing Context
The reviewed post combined two different events to imply that Manmohan Singh received a welcome abroad but Narendra Modi did not. Fact Crescendo reports that the footage showed Modi arriving at the United Nations and Singh attending the U.S. Congress, without identifying those different settings in the post. The scenes therefore did not establish a like-for-like comparison of how the two leaders were received at the same venue or type of event. To check the comparison, the review says it located the original 2019 footage of Modi at the UN on the organization’s official YouTube channel, and Singh’s U.S. congressional address in an AP Archive video. It also examined footage of Singh speaking at the UN in 2013 and Modi addressing a joint session of the U.S. Congress in 2016. The review reports that neither leader received a large or enthusiastic round of applause at the UN, while both received an enthusiastic welcome at the U.S. Congress. The review concludes that the post’s juxtaposition left out the event locations and created a misleading impression: the contrast was between UN appearances and U.S. congressional appearances, not evidence that foreign audiences welcomed Singh but not Modi. Its stated result is “Missing Context.”

Claim: modi not unveiled 14 km underwater tunnel in brahmaputra river
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
Fact Crescendo examined social-media posts claiming that India’s first underwater road-and-rail tunnel had been built beneath the Brahmaputra in Assam, describing it as roughly 14 km long and associating it with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The review says the post combined photographs of Modi waving with images of transport tunnels, and reports that one version was posted on Facebook on May 30, 2022. The investigators describe using reverse-image search on the photograph of Modi. They identified it as an image connected to the Bhupen Hazarika Bridge, also called the Dhola–Sadiya Bridge. The review says the bridge was inaugurated by Modi in 2017, after its foundation stone was laid in 2011, and measured 9.15 km; it was a bridge, not an underwater tunnel. The review separately identifies the image showing vehicles and a train as a model for Europe’s planned Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link, and another image of a bus and car in a tunnel as a model for a proposed floating bridge in Norway. For the Brahmaputra project itself, the review reports that plans had been discussed, but that the project had not been completed or opened to the public. It says a proposed tunnel’s length had shifted from 14 km to 9.8 km and that the review found no report that construction had started. Its conclusion is that the circulated post presented a planned project and unrelated model images as if a 14 km tunnel had already been built.
Reaction of Delhi IAS officer, who walked their dog at Delhi stadium, after receiving the transfer order
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerns a video of an angry woman speaking to someone, circulated as the reaction of Delhi IAS officer Rinku Dugga after she received a transfer order. The review says Dugga and her husband, IAS officer Sanjeev Khirwar, had been transferred following the incident in which they walked their dog at Delhi’s Thyagaraja stadium. It concludes the video does not show Dugga and is unrelated to that transfer. To investigate the clip’s provenance, the review notes that the viral video carries a “Native Media PK” logo. Searching YouTube with relevant keywords led the investigators to a longer video; at 1:53, they heard the woman say the same words as in the viral clip. In that longer video, a media person asks her about Imran Khan’s comments on Mariam Nawaz. The review identifies the woman as unidentified, rather than as Dugga. The review explains that the woman’s remarks referred to a police raid on former Justice Nasira Iqbal, daughter-in-law of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, and describes the clip as originating in Pakistan. It also says it found no reports of Dugga speaking to the media after the transfer. Together, the matching words in the longer video and the distinct Pakistani interview setting contradict the post’s identification of the clip as Dugga’s reaction to her transfer.

Vasundhara Raje left the BJP to join the Congress party
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim concerned a social-media post sharing a video report that said Vasundhara Raje had left the Bharatiya Janata Party and joined Congress. FACTLY’s review says it searched online for credible information supporting that reported switch and found none. It also checked Raje’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts, which, according to the review, did not mention an exit from the BJP. The review concluded there was no evidence that she had left the party to join Congress. The article distinguishes the alleged defection from reports about Raje’s relationship with her party: it says news reports described her as having stopped attending some Rajasthan BJP meetings amid a rift with certain party members. But it says it could not find recent reports that she had left the BJP and joined Congress. The review also identifies her as a former Rajasthan chief minister who left office in 2018. Thus, the reported meeting absences and party tensions did not establish the post’s more specific claim of a change in party affiliation.

Banner placed outside a police station in Uttar Pradesh that forbids BJP workers from entering the station
Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING
The claim concerns a photograph of a banner outside a police station in Uttar Pradesh, presented as a police notice barring BJP workers from entering. FACTLY identifies the location as the Medical College police station in Meerut and concludes that the banner was not put up by police officials. Instead, BJP workers displayed it outside the station after police denied what the review describes as an undue favour in a property dispute. The review says it searched relevant keywords to investigate the banner and found reporting by the Indian Express. That reporting, as summarized by FACTLY, said Meerut Police detained six BJP workers for allegedly putting up the objectionable banner; the incident reportedly occurred on 27 May 2022. The review also reports that Meerut Police said in a tweet that the banner was put up by anti-social elements to tarnish the police’s image, and that six people involved were arrested. This evidence addresses who put up the banner and why: it attributes the display to BJP workers, not police officials. The review describes the banner as having been displayed over a police decision in a property dispute, rather than as a police-imposed entry restriction. Its conclusion is therefore that the post’s presentation of the banner as something placed by police is misleading.

The claim concerns a photo circulated during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s May 26 visit to Tamil Nadu. It purported to show Vanathi Srinivasan, identified in the review as a BJP Mahila Morcha leader and MLA, holding a placard with “#GoBackModi.” Vishvas News reports that its investigation found the image had been edited: the original placard thanked Modi rather than calling for him to leave. To check the viral image, the investigators used Google reverse-image search and found the photo on Srinivasan’s official Twitter account. The review says that post was from October 24, 2021, and its placard read “India creates history 100 crore vaccinations, Thank you MODI Ji.” The accompanying post described an event in Coimbatore, outside the Adiyogi statue, after India reached 100 crore vaccinations. The review also reports that a video of the event was uploaded to the BJP Dindigul District YouTube channel on October 24, 2021. It says Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai, who had attended the event, told the investigators the viral image was fake after they sent it to him. Together, the earlier official image, event video, and Annamalai’s account support the review’s finding that the viral placard text was altered.

The review investigated social media posts claiming that angry Kenyans had set fire to their country’s parliament, accompanied by a photograph. It reports that the image and claim had circulated earlier and resurfaced during Sri Lanka’s economic crisis, when local political leaders and members of parliament were facing public criticism. The review says it first looked for reports of Kenya’s parliament being burned and found no such reports in recognized international mainstream media. The decisive check described was a Google reverse-image search. According to the review, it traced the photograph to Burkina Faso in 2014, where protesters burned their own parliament amid opposition to efforts to allow long-serving president Blaise Compaoré to remain in power. The review says the resulting political crisis led to the government’s dissolution and Compaoré’s flight to Ivory Coast. Its conclusion is that the pictured fire was in Burkina Faso, not Kenya, so the image did not substantiate the claim about Kenya.
