මාලදිවයිනේ දී ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂට විරෝධතාවයක් එල්ලවූ ආකාරය ද? (VIDEO)

Publisher’s rating: Altered

The review investigated a video circulated as showing people protesting against Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Maldives airport when he arrived there in July 2022. It says the footage was edited to create that impression, rather than showing the claimed arrival. The review’s conclusion identifies the clip as footage from a different event: Rajapaksa returning to Sri Lanka in 2017 after a private visit to the United States. To trace the footage, the review compared the circulating clip with material attributed to Ada Derana and examined its news tickers and lower-thirds. It reports finding the original footage in an Ada Derana video published in October 2017, describing Rajapaksa arriving in Sri Lanka with his wife. The review says the viral version had been made by editing part of that footage and adding a different audio track, which made it sound as though people were insulting and protesting against him in Tamil. The review distinguishes the misleading video from actual protests in the Maldives. It reports that Sri Lankans protested several hours after Rajapaksa entered the country, and cites reporting of those protests, including footage of authorities dispersing demonstrators. Thus, the existence of protests does not authenticate the viral clip as footage of his arrival: the review’s identified source is an older video filmed at Katunayake airport in Sri Lanka.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh has decided to conduct the future army recruitments through the previous approach and not via Agnipath scheme -TV breaking news

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns a purported breaking-news video saying that, after a meeting, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh decided future army recruitment would return to the previous approach rather than continue under Agnipath. FACTLY’s review addresses that specific video and says it found no such announcement. It reports that army recruitment was then being conducted through Agnipath and that the government had issued a recruitment notification under the scheme, with recruitment underway. It also says it found no reports of a decision to scrap Agnipath or move future recruitment back to the earlier approach. The review describes checks on the clip and on whether the claimed news had been reported elsewhere. FACTLY says it could not find a popular news-channel report supporting the video’s claim. Its examination of the clip found no channel logo or name, and the video identified Rajnath Singh as Home Minister rather than Defence Minister. The review argues these features were inconsistent with an authentic news report and concludes the clip was most likely digitally created. The review also supplies relevant chronology: it says Singh had not held a recent meeting about Agnipath, and identifies a meeting with the three service chiefs on 18 June 2022 after widespread protests against the scheme. It says Singh was scheduled to brief the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of Defence on Agnipath on 11 July 2022. That scheduled briefing is not evidence of a decision to end the scheme; the review’s stated findings are that no such decision or announcement had been made.

Fact Crescendo Cambodia investigated the specific Facebook photo described in the claim, which appeared amid reports that opposition activist Ah Song Ha had been arrested in South Korea. The review says it used Google Reverse Image Search and found an exact match for the photo on Ah Song Ha’s personal Facebook account, posted on August 24, 2019. That earlier image did not show Sam Rainsy posing with his thumb up beside Ah Song Ha. Instead, it showed Ah Song Ha in a blue shirt standing with his thumb next to Sam Rainsy, the former CNRP leader. Comparing the earlier image with the one shared in 2022, the review concluded that the later image had been digitally altered by swapping the men’s faces. Thus, the claim’s description of the circulated image reflects the altered version, not the people’s appearance in the original photograph.

දුම්රිය මගින් අරගලයට සම්බන්ධවීම සදහා ජූලි 9 කොලඹට පැමිණි ජනතාව!!

Publisher’s rating: Misleading

The claim concerns footage shared as showing people travelling by train to Colombo to join the July 9, 2022 protest against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s government. The review says people did travel to Colombo by train that day, but investigates whether the particular circulating video showed those travellers. Its conclusion is that the footage was misleadingly presented as a scene from Sri Lanka.
