Hier spricht ein Abgeordneter der Grünen.

Publisher’s rating: Der angebliche Grünen-Abgeordnete ist tatsächlich ein Bundestagsabgeordneter der AfD. Das Video zeigt also nicht, was behauptet wird.

The claim attached to the video identifies the speaker as a Green Party member of the Bundestag. The dpa review says the clip shows a speech by Thomas Ehrhorn at the Bundestag on 15 May 2020, but that Ehrhorn belongs to the AfD, not the Greens. It reports that his party affiliation and Bundestag membership could be checked against the Bundestag’s official biography: the review states that “Ein Blick auf die offizielle Biografie des Bundestages erlaubt keinen Zweifel hinsichtlich seiner Identität.” The review also checked the speech’s parliamentary record. It says Ehrhorn’s remarks can be read in the verbatim record of the 161st sitting of the 19th legislative period, beginning on page 20022. In the debate about a new traffic-fines catalogue, Ehrhorn described what he presented as green policy, including a threat to motorists. The words in the clip therefore do not establish that the speaker is a Green politician; the review identifies them as Ehrhorn’s portrayal of what green policy would mean. The post’s attribution also named “Thomas Ehrhorn (Grüne),” but the review says that attribution was false. It reports that a version of the video had circulated on Facebook since spring 2021 and later appeared in a post in Luxembourg. The underlying footage is described as an authentic excerpt of Ehrhorn’s Bundestag speech; the misleading element was the accompanying identification of him as a Green member.

The claim concerns the City of London, a small district in central London, and asserts both that it lies outside the United Kingdom and that the British monarch is not its sovereign. The review identifies a 2017 Russia Today broadcast as the source of the argument: it linked a supposed requirement for the monarch to ask permission to enter the City with the conclusion that the City had no sovereign. The review says that conclusion rests on a mistaken reading of a historical custom. The article distinguishes the City of London from both the wider city of London and the City of Westminster. It describes the City as a district within urban London with a special status, and cites its inclusion on the UK’s list of cities, its UK government web address, and its representation in the UK Parliament. It also gives a geographic argument: the City is on the island of Great Britain, which the article identifies as part of the UK, and there is no national border running along the Thames. On the monarch question, the review explains that the custom at the City’s boundary is ceremonial. The Lord Mayor meets the monarch and offers a sword, a gesture the article says recognizes the monarch’s authority; it does not mean that the monarch lacks sovereignty there. The review notes that the City’s website had described Elizabeth II as sovereign, and says that after her death on September 8, 2022, and Charles’s accession, Charles was sovereign, represented by the Lord Mayor. The article separately contrasts the City with Vatican City, which it identifies as sovereign, and Washington, D.C., which it says is part of the United States.
