Gandhi & Nehru’s inaction about Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya’s plea led to Bhagat Singh’s death
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim under review is that Gandhi and Nehru did nothing after Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya sought mercy for Bhagat Singh, and that their inaction caused Bhagat Singh’s execution. The review distinguishes Malaviya’s appeal from the claim about what Gandhi and Nehru did, and says there is no evidence that the Viceroy asked them for consent letters or that their failure to respond led to the hanging. It reports that Malaviya appealed on 14 February 1931 for the death sentences of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev to be commuted to life transportation. [S1: “It is true that, on 14 February 1931, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya appealed to the Viceroy for mercy in the case of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, and to commute the death sentence into that of transportation for life.”; “However, there is no evidence to say that reacting to the plea, the then Viceroy Lord Irwin sought Nehru and Gandhi’s consent letters, and inaction of both these leaders with respect to the issue led to their hanging.”] The review’s counterevidence is that Gandhi had already asked Lord Irwin to suspend Bhagat Singh’s execution in October 1930, before Malaviya’s appeal. It also reports a further request from Gandhi shortly before the execution. These details contradict the specific allegation of Gandhi’s inaction; the excerpt does not describe a comparable act by Nehru, but it does not establish that Nehru’s inaction caused the execution either. [S1: “in October 1930, during an interaction with the Viceroy, Gandhi requested the suspension of Bhagat Singh’s execution”; “even hours before the day of Bhagat Singh’s hanging, Gandhi tried to stop Bhagat Singh’s execution by writing to Viceroy Lord Irwin asking for the cancellation of the hanging.”] The review also compares the viral post’s account of Irwin’s position with his farewell speech. As quoted in the article, Irwin said he would not let political considerations affect his judgment and considered the legal penalty deserved. The review says the British government executed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on 23 March 1931 despite Gandhi’s request. Together, the reported appeals and Irwin’s stated position undermine the post’s causal account that Gandhi and Nehru’s failure to act on Malaviya’s plea led to the execution. [S1: “I should regard it as wholly wrong to allow my judgment on these matters to be influenced or deflected by purely political considerations.”; “I could imagine no case in which under the law the penalty had been more directly deserved.”; “However, despite Gandhi’s request, the British government executed the trio on 23 March 1931.”]

Grünen-Chefin Ricarda Lang will den Vatertag verbieten
The allegation concerned German Green Party co-chair Ricarda Lang and a short clip that appeared to show her calling for Vatertag to be abolished. The review traced the claim to a Facebook post and a 15-second TikTok clip said to show Lang at a party-conference speech. A longer Facebook version, posted by an account called “Snickers für Linkshänder,” also circulated. The review says the clips gave the impression that Lang had made the quoted remarks, but reports that the video was manipulated. The review identifies the footage used in the fabrication as Lang’s speech at the party conference on 14 October 2022. To compare the clips, it points to matching visual details: her dress, identical lower-screen captions at the beginning, and a woman with a phone and mask appearing at 0:10 in both the manipulated clip and the original. It also reports an audio-and-video comparison: Lang’s lip movements did not match the words attributed to her and appeared unnatural. The review says the person behind the posting used the name “Snicklink” on Twitter, described the account as “conspiracy comedian,” and had posted other fake videos; the account later deleted this video from Twitter. It adds that it found no media reports supporting the claim that Lang wanted to abolish Vatertag.

A poster branding PM Modi as a nation robber has been put up in New York
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim was that a poster addressing PM Modi as someone who “rob[s] the whole nation” had been displayed in New York during his US visit. FACTLY identifies the image as a Money Heist-inspired poster and says it checked whether the poster shown in the viral post was connected to that visit. Its conclusion is that it was an older image, not a new display in New York. The article describes a reverse image search of the viral photo on Google. That search led to news reports featuring the same image, which reported that the banner had been displayed in Hyderabad in July 2022, before the BJP’s national executive meeting. FACTLY specifically places it in Hyderabad and says it was nearly a year old, so its account does not support the claim that it had been put up in New York during the US visit. The review also supplies the timing behind the misleading association: it says PM Modi was then on a three-day US visit and was due to meet President Joe Biden at the White House. The juxtaposition of that visit with a previously circulated photo made the poster appear current, but the article’s account traces the image to the 2022 Hyderabad display.

A Congress MLA misbehaved with the police when he was stopped by the police while chanting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans as part of a Rahul Gandhi’s program in Madhya Pradesh
Publisher’s rating: FALSE
The claim links a video of a Congress-affiliated man arguing with police to a Rahul Gandhi program in Madhya Pradesh and alleges he was stopped while chanting “Pakistan Zindabad.” The original review identifies the man as former Congress MLA Asif Mohammad Khan and places the incident at Tayyab Masjid in Shaheen Bagh, Delhi, during the November 2022 Municipal Corporation of Delhi election campaign—not at a Madhya Pradesh event. It says Khan’s daughter, Ariba Khan, was a candidate and reports that the meeting was organised in support of her. To check the video’s setting and the allegation about the slogans, the review describes searching the internet with relevant keywords and examining news reports about the November 2022 incident. Those reports identified Khan and described police trying to stop a meeting he had organised without permission. The review also says police registered a case against him on 25 November 2022 and arrested him for his behaviour toward officers. This provides a different, documented context for the confrontation than the one asserted in the post. The review separately checked whether the “Pakistan Zindabad” allegation appeared in the police record or reporting, and examined the video’s audio. It says neither the FIR nor the news reports mentioned those slogans; on listening to the video, it heard Khan’s followers chanting “Asif Khan Zindabad.” The review says news organisations had published the same video, in which that chant could also be heard. Thus the video and the account of the arrest do not establish the claimed Madhya Pradesh setting or slogan; the review instead identifies a Delhi election-campaign incident and a different chant.
Lula ataca Bolsonaro e é Vaiado e Humilhado no Pará
Publisher’s rating: Falso
The viral caption claimed that President Lula was booed and humiliated in Pará, and that he attacked Bolsonaro. The review investigated the video circulated with that claim, which it places during a visit to Abaetetuba. It reports that the footage is real, but says the boos were directed at Abaetetuba mayor Francineti Carvalho, not Lula. The review describes examining the video and says the boos occur while Carvalho is speaking. It identifies her as being from the opposing political side and reports that Pará governor Hélder Barbalho intervened, urging that disagreements be left for the elections. The review also says that reporting by Poder360 described Lula and government members as applauded, and that the official broadcast showed no opposition to the president. Thus, the review distinguishes the authentic footage from the misleading interpretation attached to it: the crowd’s reaction occurred during the event, but, according to the review, it was aimed at the mayor rather than Lula. Its conclusion is that Lula was not booed at the event.

Publisher’s rating: Falso
The claim says a demonstration was taking place outside the STM in Brasília from Monday, June 19, 2023. Boatos.org examined videos circulating with captions that placed a gathering of “patriotas e indígenas” outside the tribunal in June and said it sought Alexandre de Moraes’s arrest. The review reports that the footage was being presented as evidence of a recent event, but concludes that the demonstration shown did not take place there that month. The article describes two checks: it looked for reliable reporting about a recent demonstration at the STM and found none, and it traced the circulating videos to an earlier event. It says the gathering shown actually occurred on December 9, 2022, after Bolsonaro supporters left the Army headquarters in Brasília and went to the Palácio da Alvorada. Thus, the video’s location may fit Brasília, but its date does not support the claim that a demonstration was happening outside the STM on June 19, 2023. The review identifies the mismatch between the caption and the footage’s earlier provenance as the decisive context.
