The Telangana government distributed cars exclusively to Muslims for free

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The review investigated a social-media video presented as evidence that Telangana had given cars away for free exclusively to Muslims. It reports that the video showed a real distribution event, but identifies the recipients more specifically as eligible minority drivers participating in the Telangana State Minorities Finance Corporation’s Driver Empowerment Program under its Driver cum Owner scheme. The program’s existence therefore does not establish that cars were distributed to Muslims alone or that the vehicles were simply given away without conditions. The review says it used a reverse image search to trace the video to that distribution event. It describes the program as combining driving instruction, placement assistance through Uber, and financial assistance for purchasing vehicles through the Minorities Finance Corporation and SBI. The account supports a vehicle-purchase assistance program for eligible drivers, rather than the claim’s characterization of unconditional free cars. The review also points to programs serving other communities: it says the Driver Empowerment Program is implemented through the tribal welfare department for SC, ST, BC, and minority drivers, and through the Christian minorities welfare department. It mentions a separate auto-tipper driver-owner scheme as well. This wider program context contradicts the claim’s exclusivity framing. The excerpt does not specify the precise amount or terms of assistance, so it does not establish that every recipient paid a particular amount.

The Supreme Court ruled that the requirement to eliminate reproductive capacity was unconstitutional, but sent the separate appearance requirement back to the Hiroshima High Court for further review.

Publisher’s rating: Enganoso

The claim concerned a series of posts by federal deputy Marcel van Hattem on October 16, 2023. He said Human Rights Minister Silvio Almeida had held only five bilateral meetings that year, two with Iranian representatives, and questioned whether the Iranian meetings were connected to Almeida’s position that Hamas was not a terrorist organization. The Comprova investigation found that Almeida did meet Iran’s ambassador to Brazil, Houssein Gharibi, twice, but the five-meeting figure omitted many other bilateral meetings recorded in the government’s e-Agendas system. The review reports that Almeida had meetings with representatives of 20 other countries. According to the report, the e-Agendas platform is mandatory for publicizing federal executive officials’ commitments. The deputy’s office said his claim was based on a search of the platform on October 11. However, meetings with representatives of 15 other countries were already listed before that search; five more countries were added afterward. The evidence therefore does not support presenting the two Iranian meetings as two of only five bilateral meetings for the year. The investigation also notes that Iran was not the only country with two recorded meetings: China and the United States each had two. Chile had three commitments, including a dinner during Almeida’s visit, while nine events with Angolan representatives took place during a three-day trip to Angola from August 24 to 26. On Hamas, the review says Almeida’s position followed the Brazilian diplomatic position: the Itamaraty does not currently classify Hamas as a terrorist group, on the grounds that the designation should be adopted only through a UN Security Council resolution. The reported meeting count and this explanation provide context missing from the deputy’s framing.
