The claim concerned social-media posts about a six-month-old girl in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district. The posts said that touching an LED bulb to her body made it light, supposedly because her body contained electricity. The review traced the claim to a News7Tamil Facebook post shared on September 24, 2019, and noted that the report it examined did not provide a video link. It also found that other outlets had repeated the story, including a report that attributed the conclusion to doctors, but the review questioned how that conclusion had been reached. The review examined a 23-second video of the alleged phenomenon. In it, a person speaking Telugu says the child has electricity and demonstrates a light, but the review noted that the clip did not show whether the same bulb would light when placed on another person. It described the device as resembling a rechargeable LED light and reported that touch-activated rechargeable bulbs were available. That offers a plausible explanation for the demonstration without establishing that the child generated electricity. The review also looked for evidence specific to the child, including medical testing and reporting from Andhra Pradesh, and said it found no supporting evidence or medical examination. It cited an Indian Express report about similar videos of children, which relayed a scientist’s explanation that the electrical activity produced by human neurons is only about 60 millivolts—not enough to light an electric bulb—and noted the use of touch-activated LED lights in such videos. The review’s conclusion was that the posts’ central claim was unsupported and that the bulb demonstration did not prove the child had electricity in her body.
