The viral quote is presented as an excerpt from Jacques Attali’s 1981 interview with journalist Michel Salomon for *L’avenir de la vie*. It attributes to Attali a plan to reduce the world’s population, including by euthanasia and a deliberately caused pandemic. The review distinguishes that viral wording from the real book and interview: both existed, and Attali was interviewed, but the review reports that Attali told dpa in April 2021 that he had never said or written the viral words. The review traces likely ingredients of the fabricated or distorted quote to two separate passages. In the book, Attali discusses the social and economic implications of living beyond 60 or 65, and later responds to a question about euthanasia posed by Salomon. The review says the viral quote’s phrasing about euthanasia affecting targeted groups does not appear in those passages; Salomon, not Attali, first raises the subject in their exchange. It also identifies a possible source for the pandemic element: a chapter on epidemics in Attali’s 1998 *Dictionnaire du XXIe siècle*, which discusses disease outbreaks and mass mortality, not deliberately causing a pandemic to reduce the population.

The claim concerned a post by a member of the “Independent Citizens” group alleging that Belgian mortgage agreements prohibit participation in clinical trials. The post treated Covid-19 vaccination as experimental and argued that banks could therefore cancel borrowers’ mortgages and take their property. The review reproduces the post’s claims and examines whether the alleged contractual restriction and consequence were supported. The review sought input from banking and insurance professionals. An experienced director of a bank branch said the bank handles the loan, while a legally separate insurer assesses the customer’s health for life cover through a medical questionnaire. The director also said a change to banking regulations would require FSMA acceptance. These distinctions undermine the post’s portrayal of the bank as able to cancel a mortgage merely because a borrower was vaccinated. The insurance sources likewise did not support the alleged exclusion. Assuralia spokesperson Barbara Van Speybroeck said her organization’s research found no examples of experimental treatment being an exclusion condition, and said vaccination was not considered an experiment. Angel Collia, an insurance manager at Prefibel-STE in Brussels, said clinical trials were not an exclusion ground except in the context of nuclear trials, and noted that Covid-19 was recognized and its vaccines were recognized by the WHO. The evidence described in the review therefore does not support the claim that vaccination itself gives Belgian banks grounds to terminate mortgages.

WHO offered $20 million to Madagascar President to put toxins in their COVID-19 remedy

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns an alleged WHO offer to Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina: $20 million in exchange for putting toxins in a local COVID-19 remedy. FACTLY reports that it found no evidence he made that accusation and that a spokesperson for Madagascar’s presidency denied the claim. The review concludes that the allegation was false. The review traces the allegation to a French-language Facebook post from an account operating from Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo on 23 April 2020. It says two Tanzanian newspapers later published versions on 14 May, with one alleging that Rajoelina had admitted the offer in an interview with France 24. FACTLY checked the interview, which took place on 11 May 2020, and reports that he did not say WHO had offered him money. The review also reports that WHO told the BBC the story was fake and that Madagascar’s government dismissed the allegation. The allegation arose amid discussion of Covid-Organics, a herbal drink launched by Rajoelina in April 2020 and promoted as a way to prevent and cure COVID-19. The review distinguishes his documented criticism of WHO’s concerns about the drink from the separate, unsupported claim that WHO offered him money to poison it. It also notes that WHO cautioned against adopting products not tested for efficacy while welcoming innovations based on traditional remedies.
