Claim: Rajinikanth not applied with Election Commission
Publisher’s rating: False
The claim concerned a social-media news card saying that Rajini Makkal Mandram had applied to the Election Commission to start a new party called Aanmeega Janata Katchi. The review says the card appeared under News7 Tamil’s name and circulated alongside a film scene featuring actors Goundamani and Senthil. It also notes that Rajinikanth had announced plans to start a political party and said he would announce its name and other details in January 2021; that background explains why claims about the proposed party were circulating, but does not establish that this application had been made. To check the card, the review contacted Sughitha, identified as an administrator in News7 Tamil’s digital division. She said the outlet had not published such a report and that its name and logo were being misused on a fake card shared on social media. The review concludes that the application claim was false and that the card had been made and shared on the basis of speculation. Its evidence addresses the card’s claimed News7 Tamil provenance; the excerpt does not describe a separate search of Election Commission application records.
