The claim concerns three features of Narendra Modi’s 1983 Gujarat University M.A. certificate: whether academic certificates before that year were always handwritten, whether its typeface was Old English Text MT and therefore postdated the certificate, and whether “University” was misspelled. The review examined each claim, while expressly distinguishing those questions from whether the certificate itself was authentic. For the font claim, the investigators compared the certificate’s lettering with Old English Text MT and generated comparison text using software, including a tool on the font copyright holder Monotype Corporation’s website. They report that the designs did not match. They also considered the alternative suggestion that the typeface was Marriage, noting that some letters looked similar but that the certificate’s M, A and v differed on closer inspection. The review therefore does not establish that the certificate is genuine; it concludes that the cited font claim does not demonstrate that it is fake. On certificates, the review says it found examples of printed academic documents from before 1983, including certificates or related documents dated 1891, 1924, 1948 and 1953. Those examples contradict the categorical assertion that academic certificates were exclusively handwritten. For the apparent misspelling, the investigators compared similar blackletter fonts and explain that a v in Lincoln Text Pro can resemble a b. Their conclusion is that the word on the certificate is correctly spelled, not “Unibersity.”

The review’s evidence therefore distinguishes the unavailable rank data in one response from the later response that, according to FACTLY, identified both the admission route and rank. It concludes that Kejriwal’s admission was through IIT-JEE, not a corporate quota.

The review’s account therefore distinguishes what the video shows from the claimed reason for the gesture. The investigation says keyword searches led it to an India Today report describing students welcoming Ilangovan by throwing their dupattas. It also says other news reports covered the incident and that Ilangovan shared the video on Instagram, expressing joy at the reception. FACTLY describes the occasion as a camp focused on eradicating child marriages and says the author was scheduled to interact with the students there. The review includes a qualification: according to a Quint report, Ilangovan said the girls told her they disliked wearing dupattas but were forced to. FACTLY says neither that statement nor the other reporting established that the students threw the scarves to protest the uniform’s supposed North Indian style. The review’s conclusion is that the footage depicts a welcome gesture, not the protest asserted in the post.
