In the 1960s there were 20 people of working age for every pensioner. Now, you’ve got fewer than three.
Publisher’s rating: Based on the most recently available statistics, there are slightly more than three working age people for every pensioner in the UK. It is projected to fall below three in the decades to come. This has reduced since the introduction of the basic state pension in 1948, when it was around five working age people per pensioner. During Mr Campbell’s youth in the 1960s it was a ratio of around 4:1. If Mr Stewart places the creation of the welfare state in the early 20th century when the first state pension was established, then his figure appears to be broadly accurate.

It explains that some people aged 75 or older can be exempt from filing a return if they meet specified conditions, including having only pension and interest income from the bank that pays their pension; applicable taxes are deducted by that bank.
รัฐบาลเตรียมขึ้นภาษีมูลค่าเพิ่ม (VAT) จาก 7% เป็น 15%
Publisher’s rating: Misleading
The review reports that the government was studying tax restructuring, including the possibility of aligning VAT with rates elsewhere, but that raising VAT to 15% was only an idea and no decision had been made. It says that on December 4, Finance Minister Pichai clarified that the proposal was still under consideration and that no VAT increase had been announced.
