Insurance covers damage from riots and looting
Publisher’s rating: Mostly true
Research from related reporting supports the claim in a qualified sense: some insurance policies cover damage from riots or looting, but the excerpts do not establish that insurance covers every such loss. A US News guide lists “Vandalism and damage caused by riots or looting” among covered perils for storage-unit insurance. That finding applies to the type of policy and belongings discussed, not automatically to all insurance products. A Moneycontrol article describes a different policy-specific example: it says comprehensive motor insurance generally covers vehicle damage arising from terrorism, with the Own Damage section protecting against risks including “riots, strikes, malicious acts, and terrorist activities.” Its excerpt also says property insurance’s terrorism coverage may be optional or require an additional premium. These examples show why the broad claim needs a qualification: whether a particular loss is covered depends on the policy and its terms.
