Publisher’s rating: Falso
The review examines a Facebook post claiming that Carrefour had removed every Spanish-language sign from its stores in Catalonia, leaving signs only in Catalan and English. The post urged a boycott and, according to the review, had been shared at least 15,000 times. The article quotes the company’s communications office, which said that stores in Catalonia display signs in both Spanish and Catalan. It added that some stores in coastal areas may also have English signs, while the Spanish and Catalan signs remain present. The company said the use of other languages depends on the profile of the customers who visit a store. This evidence directly contradicts the post’s claim that Spanish signs had been eliminated everywhere in Catalonia.

Claim: RBI advises ATM user to press cancel button twice
Publisher’s rating: Fact Crescendo Rating: False
The claim examined was that the Reserve Bank of India advised people to press an ATM’s cancel button twice before inserting their card to prevent information theft. The review says the advice was circulating on Facebook under the name “தகவல் களஞ்சியம்” and was being shared as an RBI instruction: “ஏடிஎம் கார்டை சொருகும் முன் ஏடிஎம்-ல் கேன்சல் பட்டனை இரண்டு முறை அழுத்த வேண்டும் எனக் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதுபற்றி ரிசர்வ் வங்கியே அறிவுறுத்தல் செய்துள்ளதாகவும் எழுதியுள்ளனர்.” The investigation reports that it searched the RBI’s official website for information about the alleged instruction. It says that search found no such announcement in recent days: “ரிசர்வ் வங்கி அதிகாரப்பூர்வ இணையதளத்தில், தகவல் விவரம் தேடினோம். அப்போது, சமீப நாட்களில் இப்படி எந்த தகவலும் வெளியாகவில்லை என தெரியவந்தது.” The review then looked for media coverage and says it found reports that the claim had circulated for a long time and had been found untrue: “இந்த தகவல் வெகு நாளாகவே பரவி வருவதாகவும், இதில் உண்மைத்தன்மை இல்லை என பலரும் செய்தி வெளியிட்டுள்ளதாகவும் ஆதாரம் கிடைத்தது.” On the evidence described, the review concludes that the RBI had not issued this warning and that the Facebook post was false. Its conclusion is stated directly: “ரிசர்வ் வங்கி இப்படி எந்த எச்சரிக்கையும் வெளியிடவில்லை” and “நாம் ஆய்வு செய்த ஃபேஸ்புக் தகவல் தவறான ஒன்று என நிரூபிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.” The excerpt does not identify the other media reports or provide further details of their evidence, so those details cannot be assessed from the supplied text.

«Oggi circa 4.300, delle 8 mila multinazionali che ci sono in Italia, hanno sede a Milano»
Publisher’s rating: Nì
The claim concerns Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala’s assertion that about 4,300 of Italy’s 8,000 multinational companies were based in Milan. The review examines the two figures separately and finds that the Milan count is broadly in the right range, while the stated national total is substantially too low. Since the claim implies that more than half of Italy’s multinationals were in Milan, getting the national denominator wrong also makes that proportion misleading. To check the figures, the review compares reports from Assolombarda and the City of Milan, Istat, and the Milan, Monza Brianza and Lodi Chamber of Commerce. The “Osservatorio Milano 2019” report gives 4,600 of 14,000 foreign multinationals located in Italy as having their headquarters in Milan. Istat’s November 2018 report counts 14,616 foreign multinationals active in Italy in 2016. The chamber’s “Milano produttiva 2019” report records 4,579 foreign-participation companies in Milan province in 2018. These sources support a Milan figure near 4,600 and a national total above 14,000, though they refer to different years and describe related, not necessarily identical, measures. The review therefore treats Sala’s Milan estimate as substantially accurate but concludes that the national count of 8,000 is wrong; on the figures it cites, Milan’s share is closer to a third than to a majority.

Luigi Di Maio made the statement on 8 November while appearing on Stasera Italia on Rete4, defending a measure in the draft 2020 budget. Pagella Politica examined whether the proposal really affected only polluting company cars. The review explains that the measure was not a new tax on vehicles: it would change how much of the value of a company car available for both work and personal use counted as employment income for tax purposes. Cars used only for work did not create a taxable benefit for the employee under the rules described in the review. [S1] The proposal would raise the share treated as personal use from the existing 30 per cent. For vehicles emitting up to 160 grams of CO₂ per kilometre, that share would become 60 per cent; for those above the threshold, it would become 100 per cent. The review therefore found that the measure was not limited to the more polluting cars: most affected vehicles were in the lower-emissions category, which would still face an increase. [S1] The review cited the draft budget’s technical report, which estimated that 95 per cent of the relevant vehicles emitted up to 160 grams of CO₂ per kilometre and 5 per cent exceeded that level. It also noted exceptions: electric and hybrid vehicles, and cars used by sales agents and commercial representatives, were excluded from the increases; the personal-use share for the electric and hybrid category remained at 30 per cent. On that evidence, Di Maio’s wording omitted that the proposal would also increase the taxable share for many cars below the emissions threshold. [S1]
