TATA group has launched a new taxi service ‘Cab E’ in competition to the Ola and Uber services in Mumbai and Pune

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns whether the Tata group launched Cab-E as a taxi service competing with Ola and Uber in Mumbai and Pune. FACTLY’s review identifies the operator behind the Cab-E app as CAB-EEZ INFRA TECH PVT. LTD., not Tata. It describes that company as a technology platform operator that supports cab managers with a platform for booking intracity and intercity rides and car rentals. The review says it checked the organization listed as the developer of the Cab-E application on Google Play Store and examined the company’s description. It reports that the service and associated company had no affiliation with the Tata group. It also describes Cab-E as a platform intended to help cab managers provide rides, rather than a Tata-operated taxi service. The review further reports that, after posts claiming Tata had launched Cab-E in Mumbai and Pune circulated, the Cab-E team issued a Facebook clarification saying the rumour was not true. Taken together, the review’s account of the app developer, the company’s stated role, and the clarification directly contradicts the claimed Tata affiliation. The supplied excerpt does not independently establish the service’s availability in either city, so that detail is not assessed here.

The Lopez family owns electric power distributor Manila Electric Company (Meralco).

Publisher’s rating: Needs context

Related reporting gives a more qualified picture than the claim’s broad wording. It says that Lopez family interests remain in Meralco through two entities: First Philippine Holdings Corp. (FPH), reported to hold 3.94%, and Mantes Corp., reported to hold 0.03%. Mantes is described as controlled by the heirs of former Meralco chair, president and CEO Manolo Lopez. These are stakes held through companies, not evidence that the Lopez family owns Meralco outright. The same reporting lists larger shareholders: Metro Pacific Investments, associated with Manuel V. Pangilinan, at about 47.5%; JG Summit Holdings, associated with the Gokongwei family, at 26.37%; and San Miguel Global Power Holdings at 4.13%. That breakdown supports the distinction between retaining an interest in Meralco and owning or controlling the distributor as a whole. A separate report describes Lopez-led FPH and First Gen as companies in the family’s power-business arm and discusses their commercial relationship with Meralco; that does not show ownership of Meralco itself.

The claim concerns a widely shared Facebook post alleging that 340 EU officials would retire early at age 50 on €9,000 a month, supposedly to make room for officials from newer member states. The review traces the claim back to 2005 and says the “this year” wording is not about recent years. It also notes that the issue was addressed in the Dutch parliament and the European Commission. The review distinguishes between two actual arrangements. From 2002 to 2004, eligible officials could leave the Commission early if they were over 55, receiving 60–70% of their final salary. The Commission’s figures, as recounted in the review, show 530 participants—not 340. Separately, officials at EU institutions could retire at 50 before May 2004, but that option paid only half their final salary. The €9,000 figure does not make the post’s account accurate. The review says it cannot establish how much pension each of the 530 participants received, and allows that a very highly paid official might theoretically have received more than €9,000 under the 2002–04 scheme. But it explains that a top official retiring at 50 under the separate, pre-May-2004 option could not receive that amount: that option paid only half of final salary. Since 1 May 2004, early retirement before 55 was no longer possible.
