As part of the 71st anniversary celebrations, KFC is offering free coupons worth of three buckets of chicken

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerned a Facebook post promising three free chicken-bucket coupons as part of KFC’s 71st anniversary celebrations. The post, shared by a page called ‘KFC Fans’, said users would receive the coupons if they shared the post and commented “Ready” before 4 pm on 26 September 2022. The review reports that the page was not affiliated with KFC and concludes that KFC was not offering the coupons. To check whether the offer was genuine, the investigators searched for an announcement on KFC’s official social-media accounts and website. They report finding no such promotion. They also note that the post used an image of a KFC restaurant in St Petersburg, Russia, and that its other images were representative images of KFC; the excerpt does not establish that those images documented an actual anniversary offer. The review also describes warnings from KFC about fraudulent promotions circulated in its name. KFC’s website said a page impersonating KFC Malaysia was not associated with the company and advised customers not to respond or share personal information. As a further check on the anniversary premise, the review says the first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise opened near Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1952, making 2022 the company’s 70th anniversary rather than its 71st. Taken together, the reported absence of an official offer, the non-affiliated source of the post, and the anniversary discrepancy undermine the promotion’s authenticity.

Hier kann man Kühlschränke von Coca-Cola gewinnen.

Publisher’s rating: Das angebliche Gewinnspiel ist unseriös. Peruanische Faktenchecker warnten schon vor Monaten vor ähnlichen Posts.

The claim concerns a Facebook post offering Coca-Cola refrigerators to people who share the post and enter “ICH WILL.” The investigation found signs that the offer came from an unaffiliated, untrustworthy account, rather than Coca-Cola. The account had been created only shortly before the offer appeared, had fewer than 30 followers, and the giveaway was its first post: “Der Facebook-Account mit dem angeblichen Gewinnspiel besteht erst seit dem 21. September 2022 und hat weniger als 30 Follower” and “Das angebliche Kühlschrank-Schnäppchen ist der erste Post auf der Seite.” The review compared the account with Coca-Cola Germany’s official Facebook page. It reported that the pages were not connected, and contrasted the new account with the official page, which had existed since 2014 and had more than 100 million followers. It also noted that the giveaway account’s operator could not be identified and that the account lacked the business information described in the review as legally required: “Wer die Seite eingerichtet hat, ist nicht erkennbar” and “Mit der offiziellen Facebook-Seite von Coca Cola Deutschland hat sie jedenfalls nichts zu tun.” The review further found that the refrigerators pictured in the post had appeared elsewhere online. It reported that a similar, also untrustworthy offer had circulated in Spanish, and cited Peruvian fact-checkers who had written about it. These findings support treating the specific Facebook offer as unaffiliated and unreliable; the excerpt does not establish that any refrigerators were actually available to win.
