Publisher’s rating: Enganoso

The review examines a video in which a woman criticizes President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva over charges on an international purchase. She displays a purchase value of R$ 266.54 and says the goods are held at customs until she pays R$ 521.97 in taxes. The purchase was US$ 44.93. Although she does not name Lula, the review says her remarks suggest he had imposed the tax on purchases below US$ 50; the investigation concludes that this implication is misleading. The review explains that import duty was already in place and that the purchase was charged after being selected for customs inspection. It quotes the government’s explanation that low-value purchases can incur a 60% federal tariff if selected for inspection, while the US$ 50 exemption applies to qualifying noncommercial shipments between individuals. It also distinguishes the state ICMS shown on the woman’s document from federal import duty: in her case, the review reports a 25% ICMS rate, calculated on the customs value, import duty, and the ICMS itself. The timing also matters: the government had announced it would end the exemption for shipments below US$ 50 sent by individuals, but Finance Minister Fernando Haddad reversed that measure on April 18. The review says the announced change had not yet begun, so it was not the cause of the woman’s charge.

Publisher’s rating: Falso

The claim concerns a viral image of a one-sol coin bearing Alberto Fujimori’s face, said to have been issued by Peru’s Central Reserve Bank (BCRP) in his honor. The investigation describes posts on Facebook and TikTok making that assertion and says the image showed Fujimori beside the supposed coin. It concludes that the claimed commemorative issue was not real. To check the claim, elDetector reviewed the BCRP’s information about the one-sol coin and its numismatic collections, searched Google for reports of a Fujimori coin, and contacted the bank. The article says the bank asked the newsroom to submit a formal request, but had not responded by publication. Thus, the conclusion rests on the published coin information and the newsroom’s search and review, not on a quoted response from the BCRP. The article distinguishes real changes to the currency from the alleged Fujimori design. It reports that the “nuevo sol” became the “sol” in December 2015, and that the one-sol coin’s designs changed over time. But it says the current design and the reviewed commemorative series do not show Fujimori. Its conclusion is that the BCRP had updated the coin and issued collectible designs, but none featured the former president.

Since 1947, India has been paying 10 billion rupees pension to Queen Elizabeth ; India is bound to give 30 thousand tons of Beef every year to Britain

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The reviewed social-media post tied two alleged obligations to secret clauses in a supposed transfer-of-power agreement: an annual pension payment to Queen Elizabeth and an annual shipment of 30,000 tons of beef to Britain. FACTLY’s review says the agreement was publicly available and that it found no secret clauses of the kind described in the post. For the alleged pension, the review says it checked Indian budget documents, where government payments are documented, and found no reference to a payment to the Queen. It also reports finding no news reports endorsing the claim. As additional context, the review cites a 2018 news report saying Britain was to provide India with more than £1.17 billion in foreign aid over five years. For the alleged beef obligation, the review cites India’s Export Policy, which places cow, oxen and calf meat and edible offal in a prohibited category. It distinguishes this from buffalo meat, which India exports as beef. The review reports that UK-bound beef exports occurred in only three of the nine years it examined: 0.4 metric tons in 2014–15, 0.03 metric tons in 2016–17, and 29 metric tons in 2019–20. Those figures do not support a regular annual shipment of 30,000 tons, and the review says it found no reports of a secret clause requiring such exports.

“¡Amazon anuncia liquidación anual! Cualquiera puede conseguir un palet por solo 5$”.

Publisher’s rating: Falso

The Facebook post claimed that Amazon was holding an annual sale in which anyone could buy pallets of merchandise for $5, and urged people to act quickly. The review says the post included photographs of assorted products and a link purportedly showing available items. Amazon’s spokesperson, after reviewing the post, told the investigators that the offer was false; the review also reports that Amazon had no such sale on its website. The investigation checked the link and Amazon’s own materials. It found that the link was broken and did not lead to an Amazon address. The review explains that Amazon identifies legitimate links as beginning with “https://www.amazon.com” or an international equivalent, unlike the link in the post. Investigators also searched Amazon’s press-release section for “annual liquidation” and “pallets $5” and reported finding no announcement of such an offer. The post was shared from an individual Facebook account, not through Amazon’s official channels. The review further notes inconsistencies in the promotional images: some prices appeared superimposed, and the images mixed euros and dollars. Taken together with the company’s denial, the non-Amazon, nonworking link, and the absence of the sale from Amazon’s press releases, the evidence addresses the specific offer in the post rather than a general claim about Amazon promotions.
