Video showing the explosion at a factory in Dasna, Uttar Pradesh

Publisher’s rating: FALSE

The claim concerns a video presented as showing an explosion at a factory in Dasna, in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad district, and says 40 people died. FACTLY’s review identifies the footage as showing a different incident: an explosion at Deepak Nitrite Company, a chemical factory in Nandesari GIDC, Vadodara, Gujarat. The review says the Vadodara explosion occurred on 02 June 2022 and was followed by a fire. The review describes its video check: it used reverse image searches of screenshots from the circulating video and found similar visuals in a video published by NDTV on 03 June 2022. According to the review, NDTV identified that footage as the Vadodara factory explosion. This provenance places the shared footage at the Gujarat incident, not the claimed Dasna incident. The review also distinguishes the death toll from other factory explosions. Reports on the Vadodara incident said at least eight workers were injured, with no casualties reported. The review separately notes that a deadly explosion occurred at a factory in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, on 04 June 2022, but says that was a different video. It concludes that the circulating video does not show the claimed Ghaziabad explosion.

知床観光船事故「カズワンは別の船にすり替え」という言説が拡散→誤り

Publisher’s rating: 誤り

The claim concerned the recovery of the tour boat KAZU I, which sank off the Shiretoko Peninsula on April 23, 2022. After the vessel was raised, online posts and a video alleged that the recovered boat was a substitute. The video’s speaker argued that differences in the boat’s doors showed a new vessel had been supplied, and connected this allegation to an earlier claim that a Russian submarine had sunk KAZU I. The review addressed the replacement allegation by examining the stated basis for it and reporting the Coast Guard’s response. It says the Coast Guard was investigating the cause of the accident and quoted its spokesperson denying that the recovered vessel was not KAZU I or had been switched. The review also found the door comparison misleading: it cited an Asahi Shimbun report that aerial footage showed the boat’s front central window and left-side door covered with boards, rather than showing that they had been replaced with new ones. The review further reported that divers had closed doors and hatches and removed the antenna during the raising operation to prevent equipment from washing away. It concluded that the visual claim did not establish a switch. Its account also describes the recovery sequence: the boat was raised, fell back to the seabed while being moved on May 24, was raised again on May 26, and was brought ashore at Abashiri Port on June 1.

Images related to recent bus accident in Uttarakhand

Publisher’s rating: MISLEADING

The claim concerns a set of images shared as showing the bus accident in Uttarakhand in which 25 pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh reportedly died. The review says that accident occurred on 05 June 2022, when a bus carrying pilgrims fell into a gorge in Uttarkashi. Its conclusion is that none of the three viral images shown in the post depicts that recent crash: two were traced to earlier Uttarakhand accidents and one to an accident in Himachal Pradesh. 【S1: “On 05 June 2022, a bus carrying pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh fell into a gorge in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi leading to the death of 25 persons.”】【S1: “These images are not related to the recent bus accident in Uttarakhand, wherein 25 pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh are reportedly dead.”】 For the first image, the review reports using reverse image search to find an earlier news article with the same photograph. It identifies that image with a February 2022 bus accident in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, where a state corporation bus fell into a gorge; the review says all passengers were safe and no deaths were reported. 【S1: “Reverse image search if the photo led us to a news article which published the same image. The news article dates back to February 2022 and as per the article, the image is related to a bus accident that took place in Himachal Pradesh.”】【S1: “All the passengers are safe and there were no reported deaths.”】 The review identifies the second and third images as showing separate accidents in Uttarakhand in 2018, not the 2022 crash. It says reverse image searches found news reports publishing the same images: one was linked to a bus accident in Pauri Garhwal district, and the other to a minibus accident in Uttarkashi district. Thus, the fact that some images show accidents in Uttarakhand does not make them evidence of the specific recent crash. 【S1: “As per these reports, the image is related to a 2018 accident wherein a bus fell into a gorge in Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district.”】【S1: “As per these articles, the image is related to an accident, wherein a minibus fell into a gorge in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district.”】
