අරගලයට සම්බන්ධවූ නිසා වීසා අහිමිවූ බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය කාන්තාව, Kayleigh Fraser ට ලිංගික අල්ලස් ලබාදීමේ චෝදනා?

Publisher’s rating: Misleading

The review examined social-media posts alleging that Kayleigh Fraser had tried to offer sexual bribes and was hiding from Criminal Investigation Department investigators. It says the authors first looked for media reports about such an attempt and found none. They then asked police spokesperson Nihal Thalduwa, who confirmed that no such allegation had been made against Fraser. The review’s conclusion is that the sexual-bribe accusation was unsupported, not that Fraser had no immigration-related case: it reports that officials had cancelled her visa over alleged breach of visa conditions and were seeking her for detention pending departure from Sri Lanka. The review places the visa issue in the aftermath of Fraser’s support for the Galle Face protest movement. It says immigration officials cancelled her visa on August 15, 2022, on the ground that her support for the anti-government protest violated visa conditions, and that the Court of Appeal rejected her application on August 16 without hearing it. It further reports that officials and police were looking for her so she could be held until she obtained an air ticket to leave the country, but had not found her. The article also distinguishes the viral allegation from a separate account Fraser gave in an Instagram video: she said she had experienced sexual harassment in Sri Lanka and that her complaint to tourist police had not led to proper action. According to the review, she also said she was pressured to provide a letter stating that no abuse had occurred. That reported account concerns her allegation of being harassed; it is not evidence that she offered sexual bribes.
