The claim was made by Senator Raphael Warnock during the October 14 debate between Georgia Senate candidates Warnock and Herschel Walker. In its review of the statement, elDetector separates two points: whether Warnock had impersonated police or threatened a shootout with police, and whether Walker had done those things. The article reports that Warnock had never been accused of either act. The review supports the contrast with evidence about Walker’s claims to law-enforcement experience. It says Walker stated in 2017 that he had worked for the Cobb County police and, two years later, that he had been an FBI agent. Citing an Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigation, the review says he had not worked for any law-enforcement agency. It also recounts that Walker displayed what appeared to be a police badge during the debate, while noting that it was unclear whether the badge was genuine. A Cobb County identity card naming him an “honorary assistant sheriff,” the article adds, did not make him a law-enforcement officer. For the shootout allegation, the review cites an AP account of a 2001 police report. According to the article, Walker’s therapist called police because Walker was armed, volatile, and frightening his then-wife. Officers took cover after arriving; the report said Walker “habló de tener un tiroteo con la policía.” The cited episode concerns Walker, not Warnock. Taken together, the review’s stated evidence supports the distinction at the heart of Warnock’s remark: the conduct was not attributed to Warnock, while the article describes evidence of related claims and an incident involving Walker.

The claim said that a new traffic law imposing fines and imprisonment would begin the following month. Annir traced the circulating claim to an explanatory article about Kuwait’s new traffic and vehicles law, rather than to a verified announcement that such a law was about to take effect in Libya. The review says that the article was published in a Kuwaiti newspaper on May 31, 2022, and that versions circulated on social media across several Arab countries.

The review reports that Chinese and Korean/Chosun nationals made up 2–4% of new prisoners convicted of murder or assault over the 16 years examined. It also notes that, even if all 1,218 Chinese and Korean/Chosun nationals imprisoned at the end of 2021 had been imprisoned for those crimes, they would have accounted for only 37% of the 3,335 prisoners convicted of murder or assault.

“Mandela Barnes apoya la política que permitió que el presunto asesino de Waukesha (un conocido criminal) evitara la cárcel”
Publisher’s rating: Falso
The claim attributed to Senator Tom Cotton was that Mandela Barnes supported a policy that let the alleged Waukesha killer, Darrell Brooks, avoid jail. The review explains that the policy in question was Barnes’s proposal to eliminate cash bail, not a policy already in force. Barnes had co-sponsored a bill on the subject in 2016, but the review says it did not pass and that Wisconsin had not enacted a law eliminating cash bail. A proposal that had not become law could not have caused Brooks’s earlier release. The review traces Brooks’s release to a different set of circumstances. It reports that he was released on November 16, 2021, after being arrested and charged in connection with a November 2 incident in which a woman was injured. The prosecutor recommended bail of $1,000, which the review describes as unusually low for such a case. According to the Milwaukee District Attorney’s office, the prosecutor lacked access to a pretrial risk assessment because it had not been entered into the case-management system. The review says that assessment classified Brooks as high risk and that the failure to have it available contributed to the low bail. The distinction is central: Brooks was released on bail, and the review attributes that outcome to an unusually low bail recommendation linked to missing risk-assessment information—not to the elimination of cash bail. The review also reports Barnes’s argument that under his proposed law Brooks would have remained detained because of his criminal and violent history. The evidence presented therefore does not support Cotton’s causal claim.
