Publisher’s rating: Falso

The claim paired a video of a woman being shot in a bakery with the message that Marcola’s wife had just been killed as a “queima de arquivo.” The review says the video and claim circulated on social networks and WhatsApp, but reports finding no reliable news of a recent killing of Marcola’s wife; it says the claim appeared only on social media. The review also notes the message’s vague, alarmist wording and lack of reliable sourcing. (The publisher describes the circulated wording as: “O texto que acompanha o vídeo tem características de fake news como o caráter vago, o tom alarmista (muito, por sinal), os erros de português e a falta de citação de fontes confiáveis que atestem a informação.”) The review traces the video to a different killing in Honduras, not an attack on Marcola’s wife in Brazil. It identifies the woman as Erika Yulissa Bandy García, wife of trafficker Magdaleno Meza, and says that she was killed in San Pedro Sula by eight men; two of her security guards were also killed. The review attributes those details to the Honduran site La Prensa. For the claim about Marcola’s current wife, the review identifies her as Cynthia Gigliola da Silva and says she was safe and well. It separately records that his former wife, Ana Maria Olivatto Herbas Camacho, was killed in 2002 by members of the PCC. That earlier death is not evidence that the video depicts a recent killing of his current wife.
